For my 40th birthday, I spent a week with my family in the KIAALI, the massive 3-bedroom overwater residence at the Park Hyatt Maldives. The trip was over-the-top incredible in every possible way. ||This was our 6th trip to the Maldives and our 4th trip to the Park Hyatt, so we knew what to expect from the island. ||But the unexpected surprises made the trip. First, our host Akram met us in Kooddoo, escorting us on a private boat to Hadahaa. He then made a return trip to Kooddoo (in very choppy water) to welcome and escort the remainder of my family, who arrived separately later that day, in another private boat. ||Then, when we arrived at the doors of the Kiaali, there was a literal parade of dancers and drummers, brought in from the nearby island of Gemanafushi just to welcome us. The ceremony was repeated a few hours later for the remainder of my family. Upon entering the Kiaali, we were greeted by a bar station, and we had our choice of welcome drinks: Champagne, cocktails, mocktails, fresh coconuts… and then when we made it to the dining table, we had a full spread of meats, cheeses, Champagne, snacks – and even a hot chicken tikka pizza (for my wife) and cold chocolate ice cream (for our four-year-old son, Theodore) – awaiting us after the long journey. ||The Kiaali residence is stunning: a saltwater infinity pool overlooking the ocean, with a clear view of the reef below; two sections of glass flooring to watch the abundant sea life; a jacuzzi on the large deck, with a giant swing suitable for a whole family to lounge on; a sunken outdoor dining table, where we enjoyed a few meals. High-end mixers were replenished throughout our stay (Barker & Quin, Fever Tree, etc.), along with Evian and San Pellegrino water, Asahi and Tiger beer, and some very nice premium snacks (Valrhona chocolate, Hunter’s chips, etc.). Whatever bottles of alcohol you want, they will bring you at reasonable prices, with all the mixers and whatever fruit garnishes you’d like. Each of the three bedrooms (two king, one twin) had its own ensuite bathroom, temperature control, and outdoor deck access. The private gym was well-equipped, and the giant 85” televisions made it fun to share our snorkeling pictures and videos at the end of each day. Games like Tri-Ominos helped us pass the time when it was rainy. ||It was the people, though, who made the trip so wonderful. Akram was available all seven days, ready to take four-year-old Theodore on buggy rides on a moment’s notice. (This was Theodore’s third trip to Hadahaa.) He again went above and beyond, coordinating every detail and ensuring that all 6 members of my family were at home. And Azzam worked tirelessly to keep the villa clean, spending hours each day tidying up after us. Last year when we came, Azzam had recently married; this year, we celebrated the good news of his first child. These personal notes make coming to Hadahaa feel like visiting distant family in a very distant land, rather than being at some resort factory. ||On the food & beverage side, Kartikeya took great care of us, offering to bring the Sundowners (cocktails and canapes) to us at the Kiaali to enjoy each evening, and coordinating a fairly complicated breakfast order each day, which was also brought to us at the Kiaali whenever we requested it. (We went to the restaurant a couple of times as well, but it was very nice and peaceful to dine in the large dining room in the villa.) When my mother stayed in, he proactively offered to send food to her. And just about every time we sat down to eat, he appeared out of the blue to check on us and make sure we were having a great time. We were.||Avnish, whom we remembered from last year, likewise took great care of us, ensuring that every meal was to our liking. No detail was forgotten, and he coordinated seamlessly with the chefs to present a most memorable 40th birthday dinner, several stellar meals at Koi, and numerous feasts from in-villa dining. Krishna and the chef at Koi (whose name escapes me) were also fantastic, offering to make us delicious tempura assortments and whatever Theodore might want (his favorite was the rice bowl with ikura and edamame, accompanied by an avocado maki).||For my birthday dinner, I opted for traditional Maldivian fare, served family style. The seasoned Maldivian chef, Saldula, presented the meal with great pride. It was three times more food than we could possibly eat, and it was delicious. A beautiful chocolate strawberry cake was offered for dessert. A delightful California zinfandel and a bottle of sparkling rosé were provided to complement the meal. ||Special mention to Speedy, who generously shared his famed homemade (very spicy!) “Speedy Sauce” with us to accompany almost every meal. And to Sangita, who offered Theodore his favorite mango smoothie—or a refreshing glass of watermelon juice—every time she saw him. She is a treasure. We did not spend much time at the bar this trip, but it was great to see Rusiru and James still there, along with Tsiosela at the restaurant.||Abhini provided wonderful massages at the spa for both my wife and myself. I get massages routinely, but this was the first time I had ever gotten a “scrub” – and now I can’t imagine going to the spa here without getting one.||The weather was tough the first few days, and the wind never really let up, making for the biggest waves I’ve ever seen in the Maldives. The beach has shifted around incredibly. But the most important thing—the reef—appeared healthier than ever. Snorkeling from the Kiaali’s ladder out to the drop and the circling the island is simply a magical experience. Sharks, turtles, and so many large schools of fish are right there just waiting for you to put your face in the water. One evening we did night snorkeling with Azri, and we saw lobsters, crabs, and a fun show of bioluminescent plankton (much cooler than the bioluminescence in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, if that’s your thing). ||The crowning moment of the trip was on our last full day. Akram and Esti (who deserves high praise for keeping Theodore entertained!) arranged for a tree-planting ceremony so that Theodore could plant a new coconut tree, dedicated to him, so that whenever he returns, he will be able to see how tall it has grown compared to him. We are now on the flight to Paris, and he is asking me when we can go back to Hadahaa to see his tree. ||We cannot wait to return with our new...
Read moreI rarely write reviews - I have only one since being a registered Tripadvisor member since 2013. However, I felt the need to leave one for Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa to share our perfect 15-day experience.||My wife and I have been to Maldives seven times together and have been to this resort once before for our honeymoon in 2019.||The resort is one of the oldest in Maldives, but it still retains its beauty and has been well maintained. The beach here is the perfect combination of powdery white sand and awe-inspiring turquoise waters. Based on our experiences, the mosquito situation here is a lot more manageable compared to other islands. This is a high-priority for me personally since my blood is a magnet for them.||But what truly sets this resort apart from others is the staff. All team members we interacted were highly competent, but there were several who surpassed our expectations:||Lemon: Lemon was our host during the entire two-week stay and she found the perfect balance between anticipating our needs and allowing us to wander off on our own. She took the initiative to install a faster internet connection so I would get some data-intensive work that I needed to get done. Another memorable moment (among many) was sending random dragon fruits to our villa as Lemon saw how much my wife loved it. She is a superb team member and I can't put enough words to describe what a wonderful addition she is to the resort.||Nabil: As soon as we got off the boat, Nabil noticed how heavy my backpack was and offered to carry it all the way to our villa. He's friendly and unassuming, and it was only later that I learned he was the Guest Relations Manager. I love that everyone is so service-oriented, that the managers and staff all blend together as a cohesive team.||Kartikeya: Kartik introduced himself to us on the second day and provided a few wonderful surprises throughout the two weeks that delighted us. He's a solid F&B director that made our 8-year wedding anniversary all the more memorable.||Davide: Davide was a proactive executive chef who reached out to all dining guests to ask how things were and what could be better. We developed a relationship and at one point, talked about how much we enjoyed fungi pizza in Italy (where he's from) and joked that it would be great if a helicopter came to Maldives and dropped one off. While no helicopter ever came, we did receive a custom-made mushroom pizza one evening based on our exchange. One other item we asked about was this truffled egg that was available at other Park Hyatts (e.g. PH Abu Dhabi, PH Dubai, PH Vienna), and while it wasn't offered as a regular item at this resort, he had the ingredients available and made it for us during multiple breakfasts.||Sangita: Sangita is a wonderful staff member who I recalled was working here in 2019. We went to the bar every evening and she is always so friendly and accommodating. She remembered our food preferences after the first night and we never had to remind or mention it to her again.||Additionally, and I don't know who exactly to credit for this, is that my wife mentioned a particular cereal she loved when we were here previously. It honestly tasted like cardboard to me, but she's obsessed with it. They no longer carry this as a breakfast item, but they located a box in Male and had it flown in the next day! You should see the look on my wife's face when she munched on it every morning...||Globalists receive great recognition here. This resort meets all Globalists benefits as advertised and then goes beyond that. For example, as Globalists, you'll be upgraded from a "Beach Villa" to a "Beach Pool Villa" if space is available (I recommend people to stay on the beach vs an overwater villa by the way, because you get direct beach access and everything is more convenient to your location, especially if this isn't your first time to Maldives).||However, we were pleasantly surprised to have been bumped up to "Deluxe Beach Pool Villa" for the second half of our stay. It's PHENOMENAL. My wife loved the expansive pool and private cabana. The cabana came in handy because we had several days of rain during our stay. It made the bad weather more enjoyable. We didn't expect this generous of an upgrade (and don't expect it in the future), but it was one of the highlights of this trip.||We've stayed at hundreds of hotels and resorts and have top-tier elite status with a few hotel chains. What makes Hyatt properties our primary (and preferred) choice is the consistency of how well the company executes on the consistency of the brand and the recognition/treatment of their elite members.||Park Hyatt's slogan is "Luxury is personal", and at Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa, you can actually feel it. It's tangible. This isn't corporate lingo - we truly felt this throughout our 15-night stay.||The team at Park Hyatt has over-delivered and exceeded expectations far beyond what can reasonably be expected. In fact, we have already made plans to go back in the...
Read moreA five star luxury hide away located in the middle of the Indian Ocean and without question the nicest, most luxurious, secluded hotel I have ever been to. The moment the speedboat left the dock to return home, I had already promised myself I would return to this heaven on earth one day soon. That way I wasn't saying goodbye, but only until next time.
It is rare for me to ever feel the need to return and spend more time in the same place, because I feel as though our lives are to short and the world is so big, that we should try to switch it up as much as possible. So honestly I am not sure why the Maldives resonated so heavily with me to make me feel such a huge need to return to this paradise on earth known as; Hadahaa. Hadahaa is the atoll, which The Park Hyatt Maldives is located on, found in the middle of the Indian Ocean. This is more than a hotel; it is an experience, which will live with you forever. You will leave this island a new person, with a new appreciation for life. I know I did. The Park Hyatt has extraordinary staff, the grounds are immaculate, the rooms are designed to perfection and the service is beyond your wildest dreams. There is nothing missing from this hotel, and it is everything a five star resort should be. The Park Hyatt Maldives is the type of hotel that sets the bar for all of it competition and I dare anyone to find a better hotel.
Upon arrival you are given a personal host. Ours was Victoria for the duration of our stay. She was sensational, and such an amazing person. When we return I will ask to have her againbecause she really is everything you'd ever want and more in a vacation host. All of their staff is the most on point staff I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. They are all friendly, wishing you a good day and go above and beyond to ensure your experience is everything you'd ever hoped for. One of my favorite things is how they clean your room. Having a host means they know everything about you, where you are and what you are doing at all times. This allows them to take care of your every need without interfering with your stay. I loved how they would always clean our room when we were having breakfast and were always gone by the time we returned. They were like ninjas, you never knew when or where they came from but everything was taken care of.
The rooms are beautifully designed with a Zen like quality wrapped into a nature inspired core design. The architect designed the rooms so that two walls completely disappeared during the day to allow the natural light and greenery to enter your room through floor to ceiling glass walls. I loved this feature as it added so much to the room. However we didn’t spend much time in the room during the day, spending most of our time by the ocean. The bathroom is my favorite part of the room and I wish I could bring this design home with me. The outdoor shower and bathtub really allow you to enjoy the Maldives at night. I took numerous baths in the huge soaker tube under the stars with the geckos on numerous occasions. Their breakfast is $70 a person and one might see it as a little pricey, but trust me it is not pricy at all. You get to choose 3 different main dishes and while you wait for your food, they bring you a tray filled with treats. From fresh fruit, pastries and baby sandwiches you have more then enough to snack on while waiting for your main courses. The passion fruit pancakes were my favorite and I ordered it almost every morning. The muesli and oatmeal are both amazing as well and I order them as my starter most mornings. A must while enjoying breakfast is ordering fresh juice. They have some of the best I have ever had, from watermelon, papaya, pineapple and orange all freshly squeezed. Also for anyone who enjoys a morning Café latte this hotel knows how to make a good one. I stayed at the W Verbier for a week and I couldn’t get them to make me a descent cup of coffee, which drove me crazy. My recommendation is to not skimp on enjoying the food; it’s...
