What a lovely island and place to stay especially if you’ve come to see the mantas at Hanufaru Bay. Martin, the owner, responded to our booking enquiry and stayed in touch before our stay through his manager Shariq, who arranged flights from and to Male very efficiently. Between them they ensured that we had a lovely time on Malhos. The food was varied and delicious, swimming and snorkelling in the reef was great and we especially felt safe after Shariq snorkelled with us to show us the drop off and best places to enter and exit. There were plenty of reef fish and a turtle to watch and Shariq kindly took GoPro videos which he sent to us. The accommodation with its small outdoor sitting/ lounging area was clean and comfortable and we always felt very secure. Shariq was always available for advice and help to set up any request eg watch coconut oil being extracted by the local ladies from old coconuts. Most importantly for us he monitored reports from the Rangers at Hanifaru Bay about sightings of mantas so that we were able to visit the Bay at the best time and were lucky enough to snorkel with around thirty of them all around and just beneath us, a most magical experience and one which will live with us for ever. Thank you Martin and Shariq.

Amazing place! Exactly like on the photos! Comfi beds, modern furniture, brand new rooms, shower under the sky ;) plants everywhere… The owner is a pure treasure. We definitely will come back again. Martin, wait for us😉 In addition to the beachfront and the amazing view to the ocean… The best part of the coral 🪸 reef of the island is just in front of the house. Literally. We saw turtles and eagle ray and great variety of reef fish. Some sea stars, anemones with clown fish 🐠/ not like Nemo the fish exactly, but their cousins/. Nighttime you can enjoy the phosphatic plankton. You can also visit the amazing forest… almost like a small jungle 🌴

I would like to share a review of the exceptional stay of my mother at the Maalhos island at the Madi Finolhu Guesthouse - the Maalhos atoll is truly a jem with beautiful beaches, kind and welcoming locals and authentic atmosphere. The hotel is new, modern and very comfortable with everything made for guests to enjoy their stay. The exceptional , truly caring and welcoming hospitality of this hotel staff is making the stay truly memorable. Big thank you to Shariq who was of a great help sharing local advice, organising great tours and always supporting when needed. Truly an outstanding experience overall! Highly recommended!

Firstly a BIG BIG thank you to Matheen and all the staff at the guest house. These men work so incredibly hard, they are very accommodating to their guests and will go above and beyond to make your holiday the most enjoyable trip possible! Matheen always made sure all our questions were answered. And I must say, he is great to have a laugh with! 😂👍🏼

All staff members, literally all staff members contribute to the amazing service. Matheen wants everyone to feel so incredibly welcomed, at dinner he walks around asking each table individually how they are, what they are doing and if he can help any further. He makes you feel like you are apart of the family. The chef - working so hard everyday to make an amazing buffet dinner, different options - meat/veggie and of course the freshest fish. All the waiters/staff house members - they are all so kind. So kind!!! Lovely to have a chat with and helpful with all kinds of advice. They really feel like family after a few days. We will miss all those boys!! They work such long hours, early mornings, late nights. These guys are incredible and I hope everyone can appreciate how hard they work!

The locals on the island are so friendly, always saying hello and asking where you were going. The children are the sweetest and as you walk around the island and become familiar with everyone, you feel apart of the community. As soon as we got back to the city, Male, we really missed the genuine and kind people of Maalhos.

We were even invited to a local wedding on the island with all the people from the island. Such a wonderful privilege to be able to do this, you would never get an invite like this having stayed at a big resort. We had a buffet meal with the the locals at a big wedding experiencing the truest Maldivian culture. Again I say, what a privilege for us.

The island is so little but big enough to have some beaches to yourself. The main beach is not a bikini beach but it’s beautiful and so clear. Great for snorkeling. Just a few metres from the shore, we saw a sting ray, a turtle, about 7 giant eels, a few octopus, the list just goes on. A reef full of life!!

There is a bikini beach around the corner and 9/10 times, we had the area to ourselves. Laid in the sun, laid under a tree reading a book with a cool breeze and had the reef to ourselves.

The activities are wonderful. I wouldn’t skip the dolphin tour as it was so magical. Matheen even sent my partner and myself to a quiet little island he owns for sunset. We could of been on there for days. Soft white sand, following the crabs around the island and finding all the beautiful hidden shells buried slightly in the sand. The sand had no foot prints on it and as we sunk our feet into it, it felt like we were on an untouched island.

The local dive Centre - Maldivers Diving Centre. Everyday a new reef, a new area to explore. Couldn’t get enough.

The WiFi near the restaurant is good, but really, with these wonderful things to experience, it’s the least of your worries.

We will continuously recommend this beautiful island and it’s guest house and will not be strangers! We will send our friends there to feel the warm welcome from the Maalhos people. You just can not compare a resort to this guest house, as I feel Madi Finolhu is the Maldives...

I’m so sad to have this opinion of this hotel. I decided to book in this hotel due to the good reviews. I expected to find someone taking care of us, and trying to do the best in our free time, but that was not what he found. In my opinion, he has increase the numer of properties, and he is more busy, but he should find help if he want to maintance quality. Here are my suggestions of improvements, or the issues that someone should consider before booking, to avoid not having the best experience possible. When you arrive, someone go with you to the hotel, and they dont give enough information( timetables, explanation for the island, excursions…) Martin appeares later. Maybe it will be useful to have this information writen on a paper in the room, so you can explore since the minute 1. The hotel dont have reception, so you have to contact him through whatsapp for every request. That forces you to have data or to be pending of your mobile on your vacation. The breakfast was in the other part of the island. For us it was not a problem, but it is something to consider. We had to request for room cleaning because nobody did the first day. Maybe it was because we closed our room. Nobody told before that. So we stayed almost 2 days with everyrhing full of sand and no drinkable water. Sometimes we wrote for something to Martin, and he did not answer and we had to ask again. We had to request many times for our flight booking. After saying several times, he booked in another time. If i had not reviewed, we should have missed our flights to our countries. I stayed worried my whole stay with that. The purpose of the trip was to see mantas. He told that he would say when mantas were there to us, so we can go to see them. One day we was all the day waiting and no answer from him. If no mantas where them, it should have be better to say that there were no possibilities, insted of letting us waiting. The last day a man from the island came to the beach telling everyone that there were mantas near. We waited, expecting that martin told us the same information, but as we didnt have news, we decided to join them. Our surprise was that we saw martin in the point with other guests. If we had continued waiting, we had missed the mantas. That was rhe worse thing of the trip. Very sad with that

To sum up, hotel is nice ( some improvements should be done, including ventilator), good location, but management and excursions are a mess. Its better to go directly to other...
