We have 2 days left of our amazing Mauritius adventure but i need to say the poor reviews really aren't a true reflection of what were experiencing.||Before we arrived ( from the uk) I emailed Vanessa & asked of she could help us with a room with a large balcony & as its our anniversary, could she put a card in the room to surprise my husband. She surpassed herself. Our room is facing a beautiful ice blue lagoon with palm trees & white sands. She had organised for a bottle of fizz in our room, a plate of fruit & a celebration cake at dinner.||After a very long flight & no sleep we took advantage of a few cocktails by the sea late afternoon ( depending who makes them, they can be very strong so pace yourself) . Nothing too fancy but they do use branded mixers not roller cola so rum & coke is a winner. We love a zombie cocktail, add a hint of tobasco & its a clear hit 👌||The food is good quality ( no cheap cuts of meat) and done little and often to prevent waste , there are vegetables & fruit available at each sitting but if your a vegetarian it might not be varied enough. The food buffet area looks a bit rustic but remember this is 3* not 5. I particularly like the cajun chicken. ||The grounds are very clean, the beach is combed every morning and there are plenty of staff members around ( who are friendly and helpful) keeping on top of table clearing & service. Everyone is just so friendly, and were never left waiting for service. After day 2 everyone knows our drinks order & preferred table 👏||Our room is very spacious and the bed is super king size. There are toiletries, fresh towels, water and tea & coffee provided ( if you like English tea & coffee bring some with you).||There is music by the pool , usually 80s power ballads ( i love the 80s so winning) but sometimes its chilled pool music. ||The food is served at set times and not available 247. All meals are served at the restaurant other than small snacky bits by the pool late afternoon.||The wild life here is beautiful, you can hear tropical birds that are extremely tame ( ate out of my hand) & there's other exotic animals that youll spot if you look.||Yes there are stray dogs , they seem to live at the back of the hotel in the stables but non look starving, and like most dogs when they haven't been taught otherwise, will sit close by with the hope of food donations ( signs everywhere saying please don't feed the dogs). There has been no ill treatment of dogs, the hotel workers do encourage them to leave but nothing unacceptable or unfair. The dogs dont come too close but they are visible.||Theres a bus that stops outside for trips to the market ( worth the trip to see & hear locals buying fresh produce) , we found a taxi outside who took & picked us up for less than £5. Theres a big " super u" there too so if your craving shopping, fast food or you need supplies, thats the place to go.||We booked the 5 island speedboat tour with @mauriboattrip such amazing day. We have also had a north tour were we hired @gopaultaxi for the day and seen stunning architecture & natural beauty, their details are on " Mauritius we love it" on face book. ||Yes there are free pedalos & canoes to use by the boat hut, but the tide must be high to be allowed. We have used on a few occasions, great fun 😁 ||In summary, would we come back here? Absolutely yes! We've paid for 3 because we would rather see more of the world & different cultures than spend our money on one lavish holiday a year. If you like 5* luxury, then yoy need to be prepared for 5* prices.||This holiday cost us slightly more than going to Spain or Turkey & were in Mauritius! . This is our 18th country visited in the last 13 years & beautiful not too hot ( its their winter 22 degrees) and so far its only rained at night.||Lastly I'd live to say a massive thanks to the hotel manager @sanjaysewocksing, daily he asked how our family was, even let us try his 5 spice rum ( that stuff is strong) !He also organised for us to have the most amazing fish platter full of fresh fish that tasted delicious 😍🐟||Anyway, back to my book, looking out to the beautiful ice blue lagoon, on the empty beach. Absolutely does not deserve the bad reviews , we have...
Read moreDespite reading several negative reviews beforehand, we decided to give the resort the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a huge mistake. We arrived with low expectations and open minds, but nothing could have prepared us for how truly unbearable our stay would be.||My first room was overrun with lizards — not just the occasional one you’d expect on a tropical island, but four or more visibly darting around the room at any given time. The rooms are not sealed properly, with cracks and holes throughout. The gap above the door was so wide it could fit a towel folded several times. It was a constant stream of unwelcome wildlife. After two sleepless nights — and in tears at the thought of spending my birthday in these conditions — I demanded to be moved at 1am.||The second room was slightly better in terms of lizards but shockingly dirty. I was grateful they moved me quickly, but I raised serious cleanliness concerns the next morning. Unfortunately, nothing was ever addressed. The door didn’t lock, the shower lacked a curtain, and the room had several maintenance issues. Black mold lined the bathroom tiles, there were stains on the toilet walls, the seat was discolored, and dust covered most furnishings. The beds were hard and squeaky, and the linens were off-white at best.||To make matters worse, we experienced a full-blown ant infestation in the bathroom. My daughter couldn’t even use the shower because it was swarming with ants in the morning. Housekeeping was superficial — beds were made, towels changed, and a bar of soap replaced, but the sand we brought back from the beach remained untouched for days.||The hygiene problems extended to the dining experience as well. The buffet was tiny, barely larger than a school cafeteria counter, and the selection was dismal. One evening, both my friend and I fell ill after eating there. The snack bar was no better — limited and stingy.||Safety and comfort were further compromised by stray dogs roaming the property, including corridors near guest rooms. It was unsettling, especially at night, and we were frequently woken up by barking in the early hours.||To top it all off, my friend’s room had a disturbing experience. An open closet connected to her bathroom — completely empty — twice erupted in loud banging and scurrying noises, which we believe was a rat. That was the final straw.||After enduring four miserable days, we cut our losses and moved to a luxury villa. It was an unexpected expense, but absolutely worth it to salvage the remainder of our holiday. I only wish we had left sooner.||The only positive note was the receptionist, Vanessa, who was kind. The resort itself has potential, but it’s completely overshadowed by neglect, poor maintenance, and a lack of basic cleanliness and care.||This stay not only ruined the start of what was supposed to be a dream holiday in Mauritius but came close to ruining my entire birthday. I truly hope others think twice before booking. It was one of the most regrettable travel experiences...
Read moreTitle: Disappointing Stay at Jalsa Beach Resort - A Review
I recently had the misfortune of staying at Jalsa Beach Resort, and I am compelled to share my experience in the hopes that others can avoid the disappointment I endured.
From the moment I arrived, the lack of hospitality was glaringly apparent. There was no one available to assist with my luggage, a basic courtesy I had expected as standard. The absence of a warm welcome set a disheartening tone for the rest of my stay. I found myself having to lug my own bags to my room, questioning the value of the 'all-inclusive' package I had paid for.
The resort was severely understaffed, which meant that even the simplest of services were hard to come by. At tea time, the 'all-inclusive' package felt like a hollow promise with only two snack options available. This was a small preview of the subpar dining experiences that would follow.
The room I was assigned to was far from the relaxing haven one looks forward to on a beach vacation. I was greeted by outdated furniture, a pervasive musty odor, and an empty refrigerator that echoed the overall sense of neglect. This certainly wasn't the escape I had envisioned.
Service at the bar was equally frustrating, with only two staff members struggling to keep up with the guests' requests. The result was a long, tiresome wait for a simple cup of coffee or a drink, further dampened by the staff's indifference. Not once was I met with a smile or a sense of eagerness to help.
Dinner was a dismal affair, both in terms of quality and variety, and the evening's entertainment, or lack thereof, did nothing to lift the spirits. The absence of security personnel after dark was unnerving, and the paucity of pool towels only added to the list of inadequacies. When I did manage to request a towel, the staff's manner was so discourteous that it left a sour taste.
The resort's leisure activities, which finally commenced at 11 am, were marred by the same unwelcoming attitude. Any inquiries were met with rudeness, making it clear that guest satisfaction was not a priority.
On the day of my departure, the consistent disregard for guest experience was evident to the very end. I had to carry my luggage to the car without assistance, and the lack of waste bags in the room was a minor but telling oversight.
In summary, my experience at Jalsa Beach Resort was far from the idyllic beach getaway I had hoped for. The resort failed to meet even the most basic standards of service and hospitality. It is with a heavy heart and a sense of regret that I write this review, and I can say with certainty that I will not be returning to Jalsa Beach Resort. The memory of this experience will serve as a reminder to seek accommodations elsewhere, where the quality of service and attention to guest comfort are held in...
