The location is not bad. The room in which I stayed was cosy, the bed was comfortable and everything in the room was clean. I must say that I have after all enjoyed my stay there under the sun and the moon on the wonderful beach. But this will not assist me to change my negative opinion regarding many of the staffs at the reception, at the restaurant and at the bar. Even if it looked like everything was functioning smoothly, many of the staffs seem to be unprofessional. Some of them were also arrogant, especially the Chef de cuisine. The one who always stood by the „Buffet“ during the service, like a cold fish. One had the impression that either he was waiting to be admired by the guests for his masterpiece as the „mauritian Boccus“ or he was suffering severely from bad flatulence. He showed no sign of hospitality. Whenever I found myself standing in front of him with my plate in my hand for the main course to be served, he simply ignored me. He was dumb! He kept going on stirring into his Wok head down. He did not even looked at me. He just left me waiting there like an undesirable guest. And when I spoke to him, he did not seem to have understood me. Last but not least, on the other hand, the barman could be his brother as well. I had to wait for about 3 or 5 minutes at the bar before he would register my presence there, even though there was no guest sitting there in the afternoon. And when he finally looked in my direction, I had the impression that he has not been to the toilet for a week. No greeting and no sign of a smile on his face! He did not even ask me what I would like to have. He just gazed at me like a carp and he had waited there until I had ordered. However, I have remarked that he had a different mindset towards the female clients. He is definitely not a professional. This is Mauritius „the paradise island“! May be perhaps in Mauritius the „mauritian hospitality“ is reserved for certain category of people only; or it is only available in a five star hotel. Or this is simply the mauritian way of life! A wake up call at this hotel was not part of the „all inclusive deal“. My request for a wake up call in the morning of my departure has been ignored by the reception staff. Fortunately, I had also the alarm clock on my cell phone on. Otherwise, I would have missed my plane. However, each time I had breakfast in the morning Mrs. Malini was there to wake me up! Because she was extremely loud when she greeted the guests: „Bonjouuur!!!"like a peasant. The whole restaurant shook up. Sometimes she was also not polite according to me. She greeted me using the word like „Boss“ or „Chef“ instead of simply calling me, monsieur or Madame before my guests who were sitting around with me at the table. And when one of the restaurant manager or "Maître d'hotel", happened to make his appearance at the restaurant, I had the impression that I was attending a wrestling match in the USA. He was very loud when he spoked and he kept babbling. As far as the food is concerned, I have stayed there for three weeks and I found it boring at the end. For only a one week stay, I would say, it‘s ok. There were only two sorts of fish Dorade and Tuna from the cold storage available during the week. Once I tried a Mauritian beef curry "Stew". Frankly, I found it unappetizing , nothing to do with the Mauritian cuisine. Many of the Mauritian vegetables were also missing on the buffet. Although they were available on the market in June. I did not travel from so far to come over to Mauritius for enjoying Italian or African foods. I did not know that couscous also belongs to the Mauritian specialties and that the Mauritian cuisine does not exist anymore in Mauritius; at least in Silverbeach hotel. It is gone together with the fish. Because the Chef, that I am talking about, told me once that fish is no more available in Trou d‘eau Douce. So they have now only the sun, the beach and a bed to offer to the tourists. The Sega night was boring. Except for the Sega manager who performed his fashion show as usual each time...

Read moreWe did the all-inclusive package, which included all meals and drinks. Breakfast was a little basic but they made up for it with the lunch and dinner with a new menu everyday full of flavour. They also catered for the American with pizza, burgers and chip. The afternoon cake and tea was a no show and I expected a lot more sea food, but the things they do with chicken, brinjal and chickpeas were actually incredible. The open bar was a little disappointing, while the cocktails are delicious and the inclusive selection of spirits are sufficient, you wait a very long time for your drink each time you go to the bar, so I didn’t get as wasted as I planned. Sometimes there was no one manning the bar, but that’s something that can be fixed. The room was ocean facing. It was clean and a spacious with a balcony. The shower water pressure was perfect. The room was equipped with a mini fridge that was stocked with bottled water daily. Not much happening on the TV, but we not there for that. The aircon was powerful (heaven sent in that heat and humidity). Silver Beach Hotel is nested on a beautiful beach that we spent most of our days. There's a crystal-clear pool that’s nice and big, and I couldn’t even stand in the deep end. Next to the hotel is a public park on the beach that you can take a walk to, it’s safe and such a gem to explore especially with the calm seas providing the perfect habitat for sea life. Just back wet shoes and sunblock. A few blocks on the other side of the hotel is like a harbour that was Instagram worth for photos. We hired a car from the hotel, it was 50 Euros a day and we had to book it for a minimum of 2 days. They have 2 new automatic Suzuki Swifts on offer that is perfect to zoot around the island. Just be careful to fully inspect the car before you take it, as I was accused by the hotel reception of knocking it, and when the very handsome hotel manager was called to inspect the car he advised that the bump was there before. I would highly recommend driving in Mauritius, it’s a real adventure.
We would just like to express our gratitude for the amazing service we received! There were 2 staff members that we would like to extend our special thanks to, who went the extra mile to ensure our stay was perfect: Malini: She did her rounds at breakfast, hyping everyone up with a contangoes happy personality and warm smile. She suggested places to visit and activities to do, and made a list for us and shared her experienced knowledge which made all the difference. Zeus: He was just such a vibe, professional, always friendly and ensured that we were looked after.
