This is an updated review for Alfonsinas, my previews reviews reflected dissatisfaction with the way reservations were made and the prices as compare to other places in Baja, but this place is remote and really special and the staff is very nice. The beauty of Gonzaga Bay is the plus. The sunsets and sunrises are amazing. The hotel rooms lack electric plugs for phone charging, which is an inconvenience, but you can charge your phone in the common areas. There is no cell service in the area. The food is good by most standards. There is nothing around so either you bring your own food or purchase theirs. They have kayaks and a couple of paddle boards for rentals at $10 per hour. It is difficult to get to Alfonsinas, as the road from San Felipe and points south was damaged by storms and is almost impassable. It is missing bridges and has many off road detours. A high clearance, four wheel drive vehicle is recommended. There are only two fuel stops between San Felipe and Alfonsinas, they are not always open and carry 87 octane only. It is recommend you either carry extra fuel and keep your tank full. The ocean views are lovely on the way there and the trip is an adventure. It is worth it.

Very Disappointing This Time I’ve been to this place many times and usually enjoy it, but this visit was a big letdown. Check-in was fine, the host was polite, and the room was okay, but the restaurant and bar service were terrible. The servers were slow, careless, and rude. Plates with leftover food were left on the restaurant deck all night until the next morning, the bartender took 20 minutes just to bring a lemonade, and bills were not given at each meal—so I’m not even sure what I was charged. To make matters worse, there were lots of roaches behind the kitchen building, which was unacceptable and unhygienic. I hope this was just an off day, but it really left a bad impression

Extremely expensive in relation to the "amenities". Very obviously a tourist trap, as the menu in the restaurant is expensive, and in USD. There were no power outlets in our room, and only one light in the bathroom and one light in the main part of the room. My window had an air leak and the wind howled through it all night. The silver lining being that it meant I naturally woke up at 5am to go outside and watch the sunrise over the bay. The staff was friendly enough, and the view is great, but that's pretty much all that you're paying for. Forget trying to hook up to wifi here, it's not worth the additional cost to "hook up" then for ever gb you use.

First thing to know the road from San Felipe to Gonzaga bay is now completely paved. South of Puerto Citos used to be a horrible dirt and sand road. Now there is a short dirt road from mile/km marker 146 to The resort. Very easy two hour drive from San Felipe, and accessible by any type of vehicle including bicycle . I first came here 50 years ago when the only real access was by small plane landed on a short runway at low tide( the runway was underwater at high tide). But keep in mind the spartan accommodations then color my experience of the relatively luxury now. This is still one of the most beautiful bays in Western Hemisphere . It remains pristine and uncrowded. | We traveled with my wife. Two of my sons, ( 40,36) my oldest sons wife and 5 grandchildren ages 8 years to 6 months. We stayed for close to two weeks and I believe the hotel requires a minimum stay of two days on the weekend and may require a meal plan. Our rooms were very clean, and beautiful with new linens. My wife brought her own lotions, soaps etc. There was air conditioning in the room though we never used it. The view from our second floor room was spectacular. Be aware there is lighting but no electrical outlets in the room. The water pressure in our shower was weak though it was acceptable in my sons room. But this should be fixed. You will have to charge your devices at the restaurant and the Wi-Fi is spotty and you pay for it 300 megabits at a time. And if you stay for for than a night or two remember it is a beach hotel there will be sand. I believe we paid approx 100$ US a night ( about the price of a Hampton Inn) and purchased the $60 a day meal plan which was a bargain. Children are less and the $40 a day plan would be sufficient and an even bigger bargain. I will try to review the bar and restaurant separately. They are both outstanding and superior to what you would find at a 4 star hotel.. if you want a hint of the old Baja ,and have little bit of flexibility and tolerance for adventure you will absolutely love this place as I and...

Alfonsinas hits the mark for a quiet getaway and fabulous food. Yes, you do need to take a photo of your PayPal payment and bring it with you. They do have reliable internet for ten dollars a day if you need it. No phone service outside of messenger and What’s App. But, hey you are on a quiet vacation. The rooms are comfortable with a breeze. There is air conditioning . The showers lack any water pressure. The water is trucked in and precious. The hotel runs off solar panels. That means no outlets in your room. It isn’t the kind of place you need to bring a hairdryer. Forget it. It is about the water activities. They offer two charging stations. One in the lobby and the other in the restaurant. It is very low key and everything is safe. Bring a gallon of drinking water for your room, an ez up for the beach and your swim toys. They have kayaks, stand up boards and a jet ski to rent. The boat ramp is tricky. You need to lower the air in your tires or have sand wheels for your boat. The hotel will organize fishing for you. Be sure in the email to say what date, what time, and bring your own fishing gear. They have a couple of local guys with pangas that will show up with a phone call. Things are slowed paced at Gonzaga. Things come together easily. The food is amazing. They have a green egg smoker. The octopus, the steaks and the ahi are cooked to perfection. The crispy potatoes really hit the mark. The fresh vegetables are gourmet. Everything is plated lovely with attention to details. You want good authentic chilquiles? This is the place.. The huevos rancheros are perfect with a crispy shell and...

  1. They “lost” my prepaid reservation | I prepaid the stay/food through a Mexican bank as instructed. I confirmed our reservation the day before. When I arrived I was told the reservation could not be found and that the administrator, Ivette, only worked certain days and was unreachable. Obviously I showed them my email, payment confirmation and confirmation from the day before. |Instead of being offered a seat at the restaurant or some drinks while they sorted it out I was basically ignored. I had no where else to go so I just camped out at the beach. After 4 hours a room “turned up” but only for 1 night. I later found out that the probable reason was that a family that goes quite often was trying to make a last-minute booking. ||Oh and Yvette, yeah she ghosted me and never returned my emails. Cheers Yvette ✌🏼||2) The rooms |Now obviously I get it this is rustic semi glamping experience- I know what I signed up for. However the care and attention that is shown to the front entrance and restaurant is nowhere to be found in the rooms that have extremely dated and non-functioning curtains and an overall abandoned decor.||3) Competing boom boxes|Basically instead of a relaxing weekend enjoying nature and the waves you will listen to various groups of bros trying to out volume the group next to them with their favorite music. Think norteño / cumbia /rap band battle. ||If I go back to SLG I’ll try to just book one of the casitas down the beach or just camp away...
