We had a great time in Misión Cataviñá.
It's the only hotel there, but there's not much to complaint: when we arrived there were no others guests, so we used the pool (the weather was perfect that August afternoon) and took a nap peacefully before going on a tour with Ruta Rupestre (can't recommend them enough).
The room was nice and neat, with beautiful views of the surrounding desert, featuring enormous cirios, cardones, torotes and many more plants whose names I can't remember.
The restaurant was great too. Every dish (except the salads, you can skip those) was delicious and the portions were generous. I was surprised by how fast they prepared our orders and by the fair prices. The waiters were friendly and answered all of our questions.
My only complain was with the Wi-Fi. I imagine it has something to do with their resources (let's remember we're in the middle of nowhere), but the Wi-Fi service has an hourly fee and you must reserve it in advance. The website doesn't say this and we weren't informed when we made the reservation via email nor when we call to ask for the time to check-in. It might sound like a silly complaint when you're suppose to be on a getaway trip, but I counted on this to notify my family of our safety arrival, since there's no cellphone network in Cataviñá. Anyway, we ended up using the Wi-Fi of the coffee restaurant from across the street (I can't recommend it enough either).
Thank you...
Read moreWe used this hotel on our drive from San Diego to Cabo. Finding the place is an adventure in itself because the town all of a sudden appears out of nowhere. Our first time through it was getting dark and had no idea if this place was real or not. As we arrived there were a few cars in the the parking lot and were relieved. The parking lot felt secure leaving our car overnight with all of our belongings including two kayaks on the roof rack. The staff was friendly on check-in and we headed off to our room. The room was nice for the night, small but cozy and quiet especially with the place pretty much empty in July. The grounds inside the courtyard are beautiful considering the landscape on the other side. The pool was a little dirty with leaves and bugs from the neighboring trees but nice escape from the heat. The restaurant on site had decent menu selection and the food was good but nothing to write home about. My chicken in my fajitas were flavorful but the texture was off, as if it was definitely frozen for a while. Our stay was good enough the first time that we booked with them again a month later when we drove back up. A good stay at a good price and a very...
Read moreThis hotel is in a very, very small town in the middle of the desert, about half way down from Tijuana to Guerrero Negro. With nothing at all about 100 miles around, this place is a gem. We stayed here one night on our way south, after driving about 350 miles from Tijuana. There are some ancient rock paintings nearby, which are said to be one of the oldest in the continent, so we had to stop and then rest here.||||The good: The room was cozy , with A/C and a TV. The hotel has a pool and a restaurant, which were both nice. Across the highway there are a couple stores and small, mom and pop restaurants. ||||The bad: The bedsheets felt coarse; too much starch. There is internet connection, but has to be paid separately in hour intervals. The room is pricey, but being the only option, they get to set their worth.||||The whole place feels frozen in time. The night sky is absolutely beautiful due to the almost inexistent light pollution. Well...
