Driving in Baja is always an adventure. You should always watch the calendar for Race Schedules, Mexican Holidays, and even US or Canada holidays. On my most recent trip up and back down the peninsula to help friends who had never driven I broke my own rules and paid for the mistake.||||After agreeing to caravan up to San Diego and back I realized the dates were around spring break and at the last minute found out they had not planned for a hotel. Thus my adventure of finding places to stay up and back.||||As all of my normal “northbound “ hotels were fully booked I took a chance that Colonet would have something as it’s not IMO a “spring break” destination. ||||The driveway up to the hotel is quite rough cut stone. Parking is away from the entrance but closer to the rooms. A sign on the door said to call if a room was needed, it someone from the restaurant came by just as we were trying the number. Thankfully they had two rooms available. Point of face, in my many trips up/down Baja, I’ve never seen more than 1-2 cars in the parking lot and had always wondered about the place.||||Prices are are slightly higher than many but at 900 pesos for a single by US comparison it’s still cheap. The rooms had no heating or cooling units so I imagine they get rather hot in the summer.||||The food in the restaurant was ok and the drinks...

Read moreHotel Paraiso is not a bad hotel, however for what you get it is over priced. The room has no amenities so make sure you bring soap, shampoo, etc. It took several minutes for hot water to make it to the shower. I thought I would have to take a cold one. As for sleeping, the walls were VERY thin so the lady with her small children, late comers, basically anyone walking past the room had me up for a good portion of the night. The rooms sit above Highway One, so the traffic/truck noise continued all night. I finally remembered I had a pari of ear plugs so I did get a couple of hours sleep. There is a restaurant on-site and while the food was average the service was wonderful. In the future I will stay at my usual stop in El Rosario.
