Montevalle Spa & Wellness Resort — Hotel in Baja California

We were looking for a wellness experience for this New Year’s celebration, mainly for self healing and preparing for the new year. We could not have found a better choice than the Montevalle spa and wellness resort. From beginning to end our experience was beyond our expectations! The beautifully designed and spacious property is located on native lands with the most unique rock formations of Valle de Guadalupe. From our initial greetings with Karina, the concierge host, who spoke perfect English, transported our luggage to our spacious and contemporary designed villa, and provided excellent customer service for our entire stay, to our wellness experience and spa day with over five different treatment therapies to prepare us for the skilled massage therapy which was excellent. The resort is equipped with a yoga and meditation Shala, steam rooms, outdoor Jacuzzi and pool, private seating areas with fire places, meditation labyrinth, walking stone pathways. a scenic lake, lavender fields, and exquisite stonework throughout. The mountain Vista restaurant offered delicious organic food, spectacular views of the valley, and was conveniently located close to the villas. We planned a weekend getaway hoping to relax and unwind, but unfortunately, upon our arrival, we encountered unprepared and uninviting staff. As soon as we entered our room, we noticed an awful odor that lingered throughout our stay. The villas don’t have hot water either. However, that was not the worst part of our trip. That same evening, we went to have dinner at their restaurant, but we all fell ill due to the poor quality and greasiness of the food.||Unfortunately, things got worse for us the next day when we booked their ultimate spa package, which included infusions and a massage for $595. Upon our arrival at the spa, we were attended to by a confused gentleman who was apparently the “nurse.” It was evident that he was inexperienced and unqualified to administer intravenous infusions, as demonstrated by multiple failed attempts. We ended up with bruised and swollen arms and hands.||The most concerning part was the lack of sanitation and proper handling of the needles, leading to potential cross-contamination. At one point, he was not even wearing gloves during this serious medical procedure. We addressed our concerns to management, but they failed to take any responsibility or accountability. Montevalle was a wonderful place for a wellness retreat. The property is beautiful, immaculately designed, cleaned and maintained. The property is in a great location in the Valle, and convenient to many great wineries and restaurants. The staff was wonderful and professional. The spa treatments were great - IV vitamins, therapeutic treatment beds, hyperbaric chamber, and excellent massages. The food was good and healthy, and the restaurant and view were spectacular. The pool and jacuzzi were perfect.

It is important to note that this is not a place to drink and party, it is a place to meditate, recharge, and access professional medical wellness in a beautiful zen environment. I visited alone, and enjoyed the solitude and reset.

Only suggestion for improvement: I wish they would get unscented/clean/non-toxic cleaning products and toiletries. It was a perfect environment for wellness and the air was so clean and healthy, but the products used to clean the rooms were scented and it did not feel consistent with the wellness practices on the rest of...
