My wife, our children, and her family stayed here, 4/2-4/4/2021, for an Easter weekend camping trip. The location was reasonably clean, considering. Bathrooms were regularly maintained, but I often found myself standing in line to use the Men's room, as it is only stalls like a women's bathroom and the campground is huge, with a ton of people and only one small set of bathrooms. There is running water at the camp sites. No electricity, but there is a nightlight for the site. The BBQ pit/cooking area was in terrible condition. It was not usable to BBQ because the half of the cement charcoal area was missing. The camp site's wooden canopy was in rough shape, and me being about 6'2" tall, was regularly ducking and hitting my head. The camp site was a decent size, but they are all very close to each other, so you hear everything your neighbors are doing. The place was very busy, easily a couple hundred people and from what I understand, it is normally busier. It was a long distance from the campsite to the sea. If you are older or have physical disabilities, you may not be able to enjoy the beach. There is very little natural shade. It is very much a desert setting. Very few trees. People can drive on the beach. It seemed to be ok during the day but crazy and dangerous at night. At $40 per car per night, it seemed to be a bit much for what we received. If there was electricity at the campsite. The campsite was better kept, had more natural shade and a functional BBQ, then $40 wouldn't be as bad. We might try a different beach to stay at next time, though, I wouldn't be completely opposed to staying here again. One more thing, traffic leaving on a Sunday can be an absolute nightmare. The military check point was an hour of traffic, just to leave San Felipe and many people do not respect others waiting in the traffic line. People that feel like they are more important will drive on the wrong side of the road or the shoulders of the road to pass and cut in the...
Read moreAwesome place, beatiful beach! Far enough from San Felipe, but not to far. Camped at site #1, right on site boundary. Our campsite had running water, beach has bathrooms and showers. Also campsites have stinged lights that are on until about midnight.
Recommendation, dont haul your own firewood, plenty of vendors there, just ask, will bring to you , we paid 100 pesos , was perfect. Dont be afraid to buy from the vendors, their prices were very inexpensive, much lower than in town. They were selling hats, jewerly, sunglasses to name a few. The coco/pina colada truck, there are a few btw , is a must, so delicious!
Watch out those fire ants, wife got bit by one on our last day there.
If going down on a holiday weekend get there early. Its first come first serve. We went for Memorial Day 2018, got there at 2pm on Friday and it was already about 85% full. No office or reception, pick your spot, the owner of property will stop by few time a day to collect his fees. $40 USD, per vehicle per night.
We will definately be back. We are from San Diego, took 8 and crossed into Mexicali, much easier than Tijuana. Mexico highway 5, was in nice condition the whole way down. The sentri at Calexico East was quick and easy, way nicer than San Ysidro and Otay coming back. Yes google maps say its 15 minutes slower but worth it...
Read moreI tent camped here in May 2022. The view and the beach are incredibly beautiful! The expectation that Punta Estrella’s website set was a modern, clean, well kept camping experience with amenities. I was disappointed that the fire pits/ cooking areas were falling apart. It was very difficult to set up a charcoal fire. I advise bringing your own grill for cooking. Each campsite does have running water which is convenient. I had brought a portable camp sink which helped. Though there are no sinks at all even by the bathrooms. There is an above ground pool on the property that was not filled when I was there. The showers and toilets were ok. The whole camp site has fallen into disrepair and needs a lot of attention. The sand at the camp sites needs to be cleaned/ raked, there was lots of trash and debris. When I went I paid $40/day US dollars. Now their website says $50/day. This is not up to what they are selling on their website. That is way too much money for what you are getting to camp. Until they fix the place up, I will find another...
