If you are looking for a fantastic out of the way resort, this is your place. On the Chiapas side of the Usumacinta River just across from Guatemala, you are in for a luxury stay in a jungle setting. Close to the Palenque Ruins as well as other Mayan sites, you are conveniently located to explore the area. A car is needed as this place is hard to get to by public transportation and the bus service is not conducive to exploring the region. the closest airport is Villahermosa, Tabasco and the roads are safe to drive during daylight hours. ||You will find yourself in a resort where each of the casitas have been hand built and designed by the owner, incorporating the local limestone into the décor. The rooms are airy and huge, with a king bed and a one or two smaller single beds. The furniture has all been made from local trees (furniture building is a specialty of the area) and the beds are comfortable. Prepare yourself for a wonderful experience in your shower. In my casita I stood under the warm water rainfall that poured down over the rocks. ||The grounds are beautiful, filled with flowers and well manicured but natural. There is a stream running through the middle of the resort grounds and if you are lucky your casita will be located where you can hear the water rushing.||Food is available across the road during the day and there is a private restaurant on the grounds for evening meals. While the food was not spectacular, it was tasty and well presented. Selection is generally quite limited outside of large cities, so don't expect a gourmet experience. You will be satisfied and full. There is a nice wine selection and it is so cheap that you will wonder how to spend all of your money.||I loved this place and highly recommend it for anyone who wants an adventure in Maya world in a magnificent setting.||Your hosts speak English well enough that you will be comfortable even if you speak no or little Spanish. You are truly off the beaten path here and will love...
Read moreMy partner and I stayed in Finca Vallescondido and we highly recommend it. It was our first trip to Mexico and we were a little worried that it might be complicated arriving - so if you have the same concerns let me put your mind at rest. We flew to Villahermosa airport and got an authorised taxi from the airport (approx. 1300 pesos) to Palenque bus station. We told Willy when we would arrive (about 2.5 hours drive from Villahermosa airport to the Palenque bus station). Willy & Gina picked us up with no problems and we drove to Finca Vallescondido - all very easy. Once we arrived we knew we had made an excellent decision - our room was immaculate, very very clean and we slept very well. There was hot water for shower, bottled water to drink. We had dinner all nights at Finca Vallescondido and loved the home cooked food (we don't eat meat and Cesar & Hugo were very accommodating). Willy picked up Oaxaca cheese from the local cheese maker & it was DELICIOUS! The breakfast were absolutely delicious - Mexican eggs, cheese, coffee, fruits and served in the restaurant opposite (which is a fantastic setting). There is no internet / phone services (for us anyway). In terms of language, we speak very little Spanish - but Cesar (Willy's son) can speak excellent English. Palenque ruins are an hours drive away (back to Palenque) and Willy dropped us off & picked us up and organised for us to join a tour of Yaxichilan / Bonampak ruins for about 350 pesos pp (we can't quite remember). One of the highlights of our trip was arriving back about 4pm from a day trip and having tequila with Willy, Cesar, Gina and other guests. On the way back to Villahermosa airport, Willy and Cesar dropped us at the taxi stand and we got a shared taxi to the airport for approx. 100 pesos pp. Overall, Willy, Gina and Cesar were extremely accommodating and kind - we loved...
Read morePeople constantly write about looking for unique, colorful, off-the-path places that are outstanding....... this is the place! I stayed here a few years ago, and loved it.....but, it was not listed on Trip Advisor.......now it is.||Willie and his family have built this hotel on their family cattle ranch. ||They also run a kitchen (across the street) that caters to tour companies driving people to and from Palenque, Bonampak, Yaxchillian, Augua Azul, and other tourist attractions. The hotel rooms are all different, all hand crafted around a wooded area with a stream bubbling thru. Willie also runs a wood-working school on the site - which he established after finding that a great deal of cut hardwood was being wasted. He developed the school to make use of this wood and it is those workers who are building these rooms.||The food here is wonderful, and the people working at the hotel are all family members - and are genuinely nice people who are proud of their home, their history and their country......... they genuinely seem to take your vacation personally, and want to show you how great this area is. I not only recommend this place - I'd go quite a bit out of my way to stay here!||There was wifi/internet - but, a lot seemed to depend on where you were on the property. Remember that this place is NOT in a city or...
