STAY AWAY FROM THIS DUMP! I could write a book about all the things that are wrong with this place. So I better make a short list: -I reserved a "platinum" villa (which I've done before COVID, being ok) and this time was given a run down room located far from the pool. They said the platinum area had changed 3 yrs ago but couldn't show me a map with the new silver, gold and platinum areas. -Restaurant staff is very nice but food is incredible limited considering this is an all inclusive resort. They have a few restaurants shut down. -Only 2 out of 4 water slides are working. Not temporarily, but completely shut down. And the two working seriously need a paint job. -No easy access to the pool. No stairs, only a few ladders in a huge pool. If you're disabled you won't have it easy. -Paint chipped all over the place, outside and inside rooms. -Rust around sinks and water faucets. -Sink clogged in the bathroom. -Mold in the showers. -Lawns are waaaay overgrown. Being with small children I was afraid there would be wild animals hiding in the long grass (yes, that long. And myself being from Florida I know the importance of yard clearing and wild life) -Rotten smell in the room, it took three calls and a few visits to the lobby to get someone to go and check. They ended up finding a death mouse trapped in a door frame. -Tons of mosquitoes in the restaurants. I think the mosquitoes had a better dinner than we did. -There's a literal dump on the road leading to the lobby. There are 100s, if not 1000s of plastic garbage bags piled up to greet you when you arrive. My guess is they haven't paid the garbage bill in years. -And worst of all, our room got FLOODED. A drain pipe on the roof got clogged during a storm. We had water coming down the stairs in our room like a river, the only reason why our things didn't get destroyed was because my wife was in the room while our baby napped. She had to put all of our belongings on high surfaces. I found her stressed and crying holding the baby while trying to manage the situation, phones were down on the lobby so first I tried to unclogged the pipe myself unsuccessfully, had to walk to the lobby during the storm and talk directly to the manager EDUARDO OCHOA. Basically he ignored me, just said he'd send someone, went back to the room and waited 30 minutes. Had to go back to the lobby again during the storm and yell at the manager to finally had someone fix my issue.

This place is in its last leg, and wouldn't go there again for a million dollars. Seriously, can't emphasize this enough: "STAY AWAY...

Horrible place! NO RUNNING WATER! That's right, when we arrived the water had quit working about an hour before. We got to our room and then proceeded to get a drink from the bar. I ordered a gin & tonic, with a squeeze of lime, and it seemed to have a weird spicy flavour. I had to dump it out. I said to my friend that it tasted like whatever the bartender had for lunch. After learning he was unable to wash his hands, I realized that was the case. (I'm gagging a bit right now).

When we discovered we had no running water (toilets wouldn't flush) we were told by the front desk that the problem would be fixed in a hour. Well, that hour came and went and so did many others. When I asked about it the next morning, the woman at the desk said they may be bringing water in by cart (and I'm sure pulled by an old donkey). Luckily our Sunwing rep came that morning and when we told her we wanted out she found us a room at the Karmina Palace (for a price difference--that we decided was more than worth it to get out of that nightmare).

I should mention too, that we had to eat supper at the Gran that first night and it was so bad words can't describe. The buffet consisted of every starch you can think of (obviously to fill the guests cheaply-baked potatos, rice, pasta--all laid out one after another). But, and I wish I had taken video, because I still can't believe what I saw, ANTS crawling on the desserts and bread... And people were still choosing those items!

The next morning I searched every toilet in the complex for a clean one to use. Honestly, I have never seen that much caca in my life. I think I'm traumatized as I'm having a hard time forgetting what I saw.

All that said, the breakfast buffet the next morning wasn't too bad, but we did howl when we asked for coffee and the brought us two cups of hot water and a jar of instant. Not sure if that was due to no water, or if that's what the always do.. Also, the orange juice was not fresh squeezed which we thought was odd, as real oranges don't need water added.

I really felt for the families we talked to that felt like prisoners because they couldn't afford to flee to another resort and were now stuck in a place that had no working water slides or a kiddie pool.

Big kudos to the Sunwing rep (Margarita Vega--she was amazing in handling all the irate guests) and a big boooooooo to Sunwing for putting this third-world place on their list of choices. Perhaps their CEO could spend a little less time trying to be Frank Sinatra and a little more time inspecting the Hotels he has...

Unfortunately, our experience at the Gran Festivall was not pleasant. First of all, the resort itself is not well maintained. The pool is huge, but there are no easy access areas or stairs to enter or exit from. It has many cracks and my son actually cut open his toe on one of the cracked tiles. ||Our unit was infested by ants, of all kinds and the resorts immediate solution was to send a maintenance worker with a can of Raid! Needless to say, we were not impressed with their customer service. After complaining to the front desk staff for over an hour, they finally agreed to move us to another unit, which we declined when we saw it! The unit's bathroom had mold in it, the floor tiles were cracked and it had bugs greeting us at the front entrance!||||We had to go back to the lobby and after about another half hour, one of the more courteous staff members told the front desk clerk to go ahead and give us two smaller villas (which are considered Platinum member villas). Those villas are NOT Platinum quality, but at least they weren't ant infested. ||||The shower drain kept backing up, the shower head was green and rusted, I'm pretty sure the caulking in the bathrooms have mold, and the toilet was cracked!||||It is a very large resort and some of the food is decent, but because of their lack of maintenance and customer service, my family will never be back. It's unfortunate because the staff at their pool activities and restaurants were very polite and friendlier than the front desk staff. They really need to invest some time and money in updating and repairing their units, repairing their pool, hiring better front desk staff or training their existing staff and definitely, they should invest time and money in PEST CONTROL. ||||Having worked in the Hospitality industry for many years and being a Time Share owner for over 20 years, I can honestly say that this resort is not what is described on...

This place is TERRIBLE. Please stay away from here. My family has been comming here since the 1970s when this place was Maeva, this place used to be incredible in the early 2000s, ever since Gran Festival bought this place it has gone downhill. The rooms are DIRTY the sheets are not changed, housekeeping does not care. The AC conditioning system is outdated and doesnt cool the rooms at all in 90° weather. The “alcoholic” drinks are made with cheap liquor and are watered down. The food is not good for an inclusive hotel resort. There is also NO WIFI so you have 0 cell network for the entierty of your stay The only pros of this place is the location, the views of the palm trees and proximity to the beach is nice. The Gran Festival “friends” are super friendly and encourage you to participate in the games they have. The show they have at the end of the night is entertaining but overall the quality of this hotel resort is terrible.

No wifi in the rooms. Broken ceramic in the pools causes injuries. The food was good.the whole place is very dilapidated. The service was very bad. No drinking water in the rooms. when I requested water to drink medicine, they did not bring it even though they said they would, 4 times ,, I finally gave up and asked the bar guy for an empty soda bottle with water.. On checkout day I searched for the personnel of the front counter and was told by the bellhop “they will be here soon” 30 minutes later I started to be a little more assertive with the bellhop and he went and found a young girl that was hiding behind the door of the “members” reception counter playing with her phone she walked over to the main counter playing with her phone every step of the way and seemed bothered that we disturbed her to check-out. The employees in general seem to not care about good service. The food and the nightly shows were good.
