Well....I’ll start by saying that I’m a dyed in the wool Hilton man! I’ve spent decades wandering the globe causing chaos and creating havoc. Hilton has that canny knack of delivering wonderfully almost every time. There’s something unique about the way they treat you and run their hotels. I love them all.....||||On arrival at the Hampton Inn in Ciudad del Carmen I was underwhelmed. Carmen is a dusty one horse town dedicated, in the most part, to the oil industry. Well I wasn’t expecting anything special but I was a shade depressed upon entering what looks like a Chinese built hotel with the usual flimsy fittings and ‘fixtures’. The bar and restaurant are stark, soulless and the breakfast hall akin to the NAAFI or military canteen in international speak for civvies et al. My room was basic and zero views. However.....the food was more than edible, the service impeccable from the Bell Hop to the waitresses and the receptionists. This is, I think, a 3 star affair but with a full on 5 star service....!!!! It behoves me to mention that I arrived at the height of Covid 19 but nothing was too much for this splendid team. Francia the young lady at reception was outstandingly lovely and made my visit a Royal treat. The lads in the bar and restaurant and canteen were all wonderfully positive and helpful and attentive. Many 5 star restaurants could learn a great deal from this crew!!!!!||||I had little reason to leave the hotel and being ‘locked down’ there was a ‘delight’ . There’s an excellent little pool and a gym that is perfectly usable and workable. SO....I unreservedly recommend this hotel for someone that is working in the area and requires a no frills stopover as well as an extremely reasonably well priced hotel. It isn’t close to anything other than the Golf and Country Club (1 Km away)so all destinations require a taxi ride. ||||I’d like to beg the management to seriously consider setting up the restaurant and bar adjacent to the pool or find a piece of real estate outside with shade and a garden. Read moreThe first room I had the safe was broken and despite me seeing staff in the corridor outside my room having clearly just cleaned rooms and even showing them the damage there was apparently no other room according to reception. I went downstairs again and one of the managers or security staff went up to my room and when he came back down magically there was a room available.||||The food was abysmal - there was nothing on the menu for vegetarians and even what food I had was not pleasant at all. Simply awful does not describe it! The desert menu had only one thing left on it which was not great at all. Fortunately I had some biscuits in my room.||||I was tired having been travelling for several days so went to bed early. However I’m convinced the bed had not been freshly made. Certainly the pillow cases were very badly creased and looked “old”. I’m sorry I never took any pictures at the time nor complained at the time. But management should conduct a check that the beds are actually changed. The possibility for bed lice and other such nasty things or diseases makes me ill at the thought.||||The bathroom area was old and clearly needed a refresh and there was almost no pressure in the shower. The shower head was actually broken too.||||Breakfast was a little better than dinner but still quite honestly the worst I’ve ever had at any Hilton hotel.||||I have travelled internationally a lot - to some rather remote places but I can honestly say this was one of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed in. Read moreTo start we checked in on Saturday To find out that the TV channels were not available due to the network issues, we were told that we just needed to wait … The following day, encountered that was not hot water at all, the response from the hotel maintenance group was that they were working on the issue no time given to let us know when the issue was supposed to get resolved. 3 days later still without hot water. Be aware everyone!!! Make sure to ask before checking in to this hotel.if everything is working properly. Please make sure that the toilet flush properly. We moved...
