We stayed at Villa del Sol for a week while visiting the sights of Morelia. The airport is 30 minutes east of Morelia, and this is the first hotel when you are coming into the city.||The beds were very firm (borderline uncomfortable) and came with only two flattened pillows. We called the front desk and they brought us two more. The room also offered complimentary bottled/filtered water.||The hotel was very clean. It has a beautiful pool and courtyard, something you can't see from the road, and many rooms have a lovely view of the garden, others look onto the parking lot.||We swam in the pool, it was bright and clear (although a bit cold!). There is also a restaurant in the hotel and the food was very inexpensive and delicious. You can also order room service which was very nice for the rainy nights.||All the halls are covered and there is internet access available in the lobby (I was even able to connect wirelessly from the room using my laptop). Parking is a bit of an issue because there aren't many spaces. Whenever we wanted to go sightseeing, we just walked out to the road and hailed a cab. For a couple bucks we were taken to the cathedral, and from there we went to the zoo, monument, etc.||There is also a huge "tianguis" or flea market just across the street, and on occasion they have a rodeo in the stadium.||This was a very clean and quiet hotel. Since you are on the outskirts of downtown Morelia, their aren't crowds of people, the smog isn't as bad and the cars don't honk their horns (as much).||I guess this is the equivalent of a nicer Motel 6, it has hot water and all the essentials (cable, pool, food, etc.). I would definitely reccomend this hotel, it is a bargain compared to the rates you'll find downtown. When we go back, this is...
Read moreUpon checking in people at the front desk were quite cranky and not welcoming. The rooms were dingy and you could smell mold, the outlets were fried and the lights all flickered. The restaurant was terrible, sleep was interrupted by dogs barking and fighting all night and once that calmed down you were constantly woken by the transport trucks braking coming into the city. We didn't bother with the breakfast and left around 7:30am. The best thing about the hotel was the pool area, which for some reason had three people dressed in black blocking each entrance and they just stood their awkwardly. Wouldn't be back and would not recommend. How other reviews said it's a great family place and the restaurant was good...
