If you love the tranquil elegance of Aman Resorts you’ll love Imanta, which has the added wonder of being in the middle of a rain forest. Nature lovers will be awed by the sights and sounds of the jungle and ocean waves lapping the shore. This is a slice of heaven. Imanta is a gentle reminder of the beauty and fragility of our glorious planet. The resort was developed to grace the environment, built with materials sourced from the mountain, lots of stone and rock, beautiful tiled floors, bamboo dressed doors, furniture from locally sourced wood. A winding 20 minute drive from the nearest village through an enchanting forest, with 2 security check points. This is for those seeking distance from life’s cacophony.
We stayed in a a jungle suite, a generous 1900 sq ft give or take with a massive luxurious bath, inviting soaking tub, 2 sinks 2 large showers, one outside in a private garden. The luxurious king bed and pillow menu were what you’d expect in a resort of this calibre. Surrounding windows and doors a steady reminder of your surroundings. A discreetly hidden TV which we never pulled from it’s encasement. Step outside to an infinity pool and lovely terrace complete with king lounger. For a change of scenery, there’s also a large infinity pool located at the observatory at the top of the resort.
None of the suites are far from the beautiful private beach, just a short walk down for us. on a rocky path with guard ropes. The suites are sufficiently spaced apart with little chance of hearing other guest. It would be easy to spend your time in quiet solitude and never encounter another guest, with only 12 suites this is truly an intimate escape.
Enjoy a gourmet dinner and drinks at the The Observatory, the best spot for views and the best dining experience in the area, foodies will not be disappointed.
The beach is on a private cove You’ll have breakfast on the beach, walk the beach and watch fishermen bring in the catch of the day or take an ocean kayak out for awhile. Staff can arrange for spa treatments, nature walks, hiking tours, visits to local towns and other activities. One that we missed (sadly), was the baby turtle release, we’d arrived a week too late. Staff say it’s a must if you happen to be lucky enough to be there.
Staff assistance is a quick phone call away. Staff is warm, welcoming and attentive, on par with any luxury resort I’ve visited. Special thanks to Rodrigo, Ramon, Rogelio & Abraham for their help and assistance and to the others whose names we can’t remember.
If you need to de-stress this is the place for you. Imanta also offers 3 bedroom Casas and a Treehouse. The resort is an obvious spot for romantic honeymoons, couples renewing vows, corporate group gatherings or anyone seeking comfort in solitude. The multi bedroom suites would be great for familes with...
Read moreThis was our third time to Imanta, a fabulous secluded resort that lives on a mountain surrounded by jungle. It is one-of-a-kind and would be rated 5-star if only they updated the resort since it opened in 2010. ||We stayed at the Aye suite (there are only ten suites and two villas) which I think is their best suite right off the ocean. So close in fact, you can hear the thunderous waves 24/7 which makes for the best sleeping. The suite is sparse with hardly any amenities (only hand lotion provided in the bathroom) and mini fridge has a few bottles of water, soda and one Snickers bar. However, it is spacious and the shower features a view of the ocean with a window that opens. This suite also features an outdoor shower. ||The beach is on the small side with crashing waves in the morning and where breakfast and lunch are served. Food is very good here along with service that can't be beat. Steps away is the outdoor spa (literally, no roof here) and you can enjoy outdoor massages and facials. ||The major disappointment is the gym which I have asked senior management on my both previous visits to update. No treadmill, no spinning bike, no yoga mats and free weights that only go to 35#. It's terrible to say the least. There are two small pools, neither one is used during the day as they are far from the beach. ||Miguel is the new chef who oversees the beach and main restaurant. As mentioned earlier, both breakfast and lunch are excellent. Dinner menu is a work in progress and needs refinement. We ordered from the lunch menu prior and service and food quality was mediocre. There is a lot of potential here. ||Most amazing about Imanta is their prices. Suites are half the price of name brand nearby resorts and food prices are less than half. Most likely the original owner, Juan Sahagun, created Imanta for his family and "extended" family so he kept prices more than affordable. Alas, it was with very sad news that we learned Juan passed away two weeks prior and Imanta is now run by his wife, Christine. I think Christine will eventually sell the resort and a high-end name will buy it, update it and double the rates. ||In the meantime, if you can skip the gym, book now while the season is hot and enjoy all the splendor of Imanta in it's...
Read moreMy wife and I had very high hopes for Imanta based on most of the reviews and price we were paying per-night. Unfortunately, while much of Imanta was impressive, it didn't meet our expectations as a total experience.||Starting with the good:|- The food was consistently very good - we enjoyed 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts along with some daytime pool snacks.|- The location - the property is spectacular with a beautiful private beach and great views.|- The overall atmosphere - there are only 12 suites at Imanta and the property feels quiet and exclusive. Very peaceful.|- The staff - Very friendly, great English (but also indulged me to practice my Spanish), attentive, and responsive.||The not-so-good.|- The room - while the room we stayed in (Casa Xurawe) was very grand in terms of scale (it's wildly huge for 2 people) it is badly in need of renovation. It looked to me like something built in the 90s and like it really hasn't been touched since then. The square footage is enormous, but it feels cavernous, empty, and cold. There is very little seating in the room or on the decks attached to it. The shower partially worked but it took forever for the water to heat up and the shower fixture itself has a jet function which was broken. The toilet dripped, The windows and sliding doors really showed their age. The door covering the mini-bar had clearly been broken at some point and repaired but the repair was obvious and, I'm sorry to say, ugly. The room had bathroom mirrors with lights built in but those didn't work. Finally, the room was advertised to have ocean views but in truth it was only a small view because the trees and had been allowed to grow up in front and almost completely block the view. Grounds maintenance, thinning the foliage and trimming would have made a huge difference.|- Included continental breakfast - our room rate was a 'bed and breakfast' however this was limited to continental breakfast only. While the food was good the quantity was a bit skimpy for two people.||Others have and continue to rave about this place so I can only guess that some suites are in better repair than Casa Xurawe. It could be so much better with some investments in renovations...
