strange and felt unsafe. this does not feel like a 4 star hotel. i was left completely alone in the entire hotel without a secure lock on my room and with only a small saloon door blocking my room. No security guard or hotel attendant. No other guests.
the town is so small and unaccustomed to travelers that i was stopped and surrounded by 4 armed police while i was looking at the old church. they held me until i gave them details - including where i was staying. this led to some irrational fears all night and prevented me from resting well at all. to me, a seasoned traveler, i was clearly very visible and the only foreigner in this whole town - now i was left completely alone at a “boutique” hotel without a secure lock on my room or guard at the door.
what’s more frustrating than concerning was that the hotel had no restaurant for dinner. the town had only a few small places to eat that had only a handful of verbal menu items - local and cool, i get it, but not what i wanted at that time.
this hotel should offer a restaurant, bar, and security if it wants to claim 4 stars. i couldn’t even pay with a credit card - a really big problem when ATM’s and banks are extremely hard to come by in this area. yes, the design is visually arresting. But without instilling a sense of peace and security, what good is that? the hotel left me feeling like i was trapped, exposed in a gilded cage (a sitting duck). i’m sure in the end this small lovely town is completely safe and the people i met were amazingly kind. But the hotel left me alone overnight without making it clear to me that i was in fact safe. the experience would be 1 star but i am adding a star for the lovely staff at check in and for breakfast who tried to help make this a better experience and we’re patient with my beginner Spanish. and another star because in the daytime, the ghostly modernism is quite pretty.
i almost never leave reviews because i often find them packed with silly complaints, but i’m leaving one now because people should understand what the full picture is before...
Read moreWe are travelling as a couple through the valley of Oaxaca & were hoping to get a small special, town experience. Hotel Boutique Cosijo was more than we could have hoped for!
One of the best value for money stays we’ve had at a hotel since arriving in Mexico 2 and 1/2 months ago.
Well the breakfast has been amazing as you can see in the pictures and the service and staff have been so helpful, kind and lovely. We only booked for one night and ended up staying for three. Now we don’t want to leave. We didn’t see on line but they can arrange special packages including massage, authentic food etc. going by the how good the breakfast was, I’d say it would be great
Highly recommend going to the market in the town before afternoon for delicious food stalls (up stairs). We bought some produce downstairs like chocolate, fruit etc. also we don’t usually visit churches but the one in the town here will blow your mind.
The pool was better than expected. The temperature was just right. We spent several afternoons soaking and swimming
Don’t miss this place 10/10!! We would consider staying here in the future and commuting to Oaxaca
*the town of Tlacochahuaya is a very small and quiet farming town that does not rely on tourism like some towns. This is what makes it so special if you are looking for an authentic Oaxacan...
Read moreThis is a great place to stay if you want to connect with culture and it is innthe middle of a small town, is not for everybody as the ac is natural air, the ambient is not for party more for an old style experience of mexican deep culture, the personal is very friendly, always taking care of you, but is not for everyone, it is more for explorers, passing by, or want to connect with the past, have rough terrains, you can park in front of the hotel they have camera, but it is up to the visitor, we love it as we like 4his style, rooms are big, have patio, all enclosed and nature come to visit on the trees, I will recommend this more to explorers, passing by visitors and electronic music goers. But we loved...
