From the moment we were greeted by Aldo, the owner, we knew that we would enjoy our stay in this small hotel with its peaceful garden setting. Aldo and all of his staff made us feel very welcome, more like friends than just guests. The personal touch was really evident in the special meal, discada, that Aldo prepared one night for all of his guests. One of the guests even acted as Aldo's "best man" in assisting in the preparation of the discada, while we observed the cooking process.||The tours arranged by Aldo were also spectacular and unique, allowing us to explore the natural beauty of La Huesteca. The tour to the Sotanos de las Golondrinas, Cave of the Swallows, to watch the vencejos (white-collared swifts and vencejos (grees parrots) emerge in the early morning was magical. This was followed by breakfast in Aquismon and the opportunity to try zacahuil, a giant tamal of four to six feet wrapped in banana leaves. From here we went to the Castillo de Edward James, created by an eccentric Englishman. The gardens and structures were phenomenal and lour guide, the son of two employees of Edward James who grew up on the grounds, was very informative.||The other tour to Real de Catroce was also spectacular as we rode in Willys Jeeps up steep roads to the town of Real de Catorce which was a mining town created in the late 19th century.||Equally important were the wonderful people we met at La Malanca. We had an opportunity to practice our Spanish --- my wife's being far superior to mine --- while our new Mexican friends practiced their English.||If you are looking for a great vacation spot away from the chain hotels in a unique natural setting, this is the...
Read moreThe hotel is near Río Verde, but tucked away in the fields. When you arrive its like entering an estate. Long drive way and then several houses. They have 9 rooms and swimming pool with Bar.||The restaurant is not really active for outside people so when you want to eat you will be asked what you want and when in advance. The food is really good at low prices.|They offered a pizza night, artisan pizzas made in their wood oven. Delicious.|Too bad they could not offer much as drinks. Apart from lemon water they didn't stock up. Despite asking first day.||Rooms are spacious and comfortable. We only had small inconvenience about the air-conditioning that didn't work.||It says spa but we didn't see any of that, apart from the sweathut that was offered.|They used to have a golf training court as well.||The place is surrounded by fruit trees and a vineyard. Yes they make their own wine. How cool is that.|Furthermore they make and sell products as lavender, fruit marmelade, honey, limoncello. All delicious.||We booked 4 nights including a tour package for 3 days. The hotel has an own van and organise the tours themselves. Cascades are the main attraction in the area and with the visit.||We were very pleased with the attention and...
Read moreOwners are very cordial, friendly and staff members are service oriented. Clean and spacious rooms with fans to freshen-up your sleep. Nice decorations but bathrooms are not well maintained. ||||More than a hotel, it is a nice family-owned country side ranch with all the basics to feel at "your own place". I have to say that I do have mixed feelings with their value promiss: is it really a hotel? Mmmm.... don"t think so. I rank it more like a ranch for rent with staff. Or maybe... maybe a B&B. Spa? ..... not really: This is more an added word to the name just to make it attractive, but really bring down your expectations. ||||Look: I've stayed at country, roustic, distant places with a 5 stars quality overall. Here it is a "just fine" place which lacks proper towels, bathroom amenities and a restaurant (you'll find a dinning room and an outdoor kitchen which is OK though not open unless you ask for it) but clearly NOT a restaurant. Unfortunatelly I did not get the expected return for the price I payed, most specially for food. I have to confirm other guests reviews: food is not bad, but is expensive. My overall impression is that it is a little bit of an overrated place. ||||A final note: Rioverde has nothing to...
