Hotel Minatitlan — Hotel in Veracruz

The building is new and well kept, unlike anything else in this town. Minatitlan is about the ugliest and less appealing town I have visited in Mexico. The staff is not particularly attentive, but nice when you talk to them. The rooms are clean and new. There is no hot water in the shower, which is Ok when the temperature outside is 35, but when it rains and it gets cold, it would be nice with a warm shower. The bed is fine, but the 4 pillows are all very large and hard and even though I asked for a softer one that was apparently not possible. So now my neck hurts. The restaurant serves a nice Sopa Azteca (with lots of cheese and not much tortilla), but while they have a alot of seafood and shrimp dishes that look tasty on the card they don't actually make those - the water says that shrimp spoils too easily and thats why they don't cook those, which made me a little uneasy about how they handle food - in a fridge it should be possible to store shrimp a day or two. I just stayed here last week. I drove a rental car to this hotel about 4 hours from Xalapa. There is a parking garage behind the hotel which was not common at other hotels I stayed at. The staff did not speak much English so I had to use google translate on my smartphone to communicate. There is a restaurant on site where I ate dinner and breakfast, I do not believe either were free but the pesos were cheap. The hotel is not easy to find, and I did not see any name or sign posted outside to let you know it was a BW hotel. To find this hotel, I needed to pay a taxi to escort me to it while I followed in my rental car. The hotel did not appear on my iphone GPS when I searched for it. The area surrounding the hotel has a lot of shopping and there is a river a block away where you can pay for a boat ride. Riding back home to Canada I stopped in Miatitlan at the Best Western looking for the standard comfort of this hotel chain. Everything was right large confortable room, well located and all the commodités ypu would expect. But then when I left, someone Who I suspect to be one of the employées made my day. Juts the extra thing one could jot expect, à mini Hot wheels motorcycle and à message wishing me à good trip. You cant buy this kind of expérience, but you can find it at Best...
