As a proud Mongolian, I took it upon myself to organize a large group of friends and colleagues for a trip to Mongolia from London. I made sure to select the best hotels and ger camps with high standards for our accommodations. One of the highlights of our trip was staying at Three Camel Lodge in the Gobi, known for its exceptional quality. However, upon arrival, I was mistaken for a guide by the receptionist and was not given a proper welcome. This was disappointing and put a damper on my excitement. Additionally, the barman in the lounge was not very friendly towards me when my friends and I wanted to use the lounge late at night, it was around 10pm. Despite this, the restaurant staff were wonderful and provided excellent service. Food was quite okay. The gers at Three Camel Lodge were not up to par, especially considering the high cost of the camp. On the last day of our stay, one of the gers was leaking due to rain, causing discomfort for my friend staying there. It made me question why they did not use waterproof materials in this day and age. I would suggest that Three Camel Lodge treat all guests, including guides and drivers who accompany tourists, with the same level of respect and hospitality. This would enhance the overall experience for everyone involved and create a more welcoming environment for all visitors. Overall, while there were some drawbacks to our experience at Three Camel Lodge, we still enjoyed our trip to Mongolia and appreciated the hospitality of the staff at the lodge.

Really unique! We stayed in a ger that had ac and heat. Comfy bed. And another, connected ger with shower and bathroom. Met with a nomad family who shared their food, drinks, stories, and rode their camels. We saw petroglyphs, a newly unearthed dinosaur and celebrated Nadaam. 3 Camel staff made the trip simple: pre-trip comms, pick up at hotel, airport assistance and friendly interactions from start to finish. Thanks for sharing your country and culture!

Three Camel Lodge is a magical place. It is set in the middle of the Gobi Desert and far from any city (the closest town is about 10 miles away and is very small). The views of the desert and the herds of animals and sunsets and star gazing were unsurpassed.

Dear all||I wish to express my experience with this trip||First - the price is not justifiable , I have been to other luxury cruises/special accommodation's such as the catamaran in Galapagos with only up to 16 passengers per catamaran or Sanctuary retreats river cruise in the Nile river used by Abercrombie and Kent , the quality of service and luxury are far superior and they probably charge bit less per day||We had just been to an overnight trip organised by Goya with similar set up with private driver and guide and a ger with bathroom but the price is at least less than a 1/3 of what you charge with similar experience, of course with that price , I do not expect a turn down service , but rest of the experiences such as quality of guide, Ger with hot shower , ordinary food , are the same …..||Second - the food is ordinary , and quite cheap in terms of the cost , which is not what we expected and I have had much better quality of food elsewhere for a lesser price, if you aim to show the authenticity of Mongolian cuisine then you charge according to the cost base of your produce and ingredients (pork, beef, dumplings), in other luxury cruises you get seafood, fine dining dishes, and it might not be authentic but the value for money is there and they charge lower||In another word if you want to highlight Mongolian cuisine and you are charging more than other luxury travel operators /accommmodations, then we would expect finer ingredients or complimentary wines or culinary creative cookings. If you just gonna serve Mongolian dumplings and pizza which are ok food then you price similar to modern nomad restaurant etc||Third - what happened today with MIAT airway (flight cancelled) was horrible which is beyond your control but the contingency plan and emergency responses are substandard considering the fees you charge|We waited in the airport for more than 6 hours and when all other tours have left earlier to go for dinner in town , we had to wait for an extra 40 min in the airport hungry and unhappy because our driver was not around and it took him 40 minutes to come to pick us up where other tours already have drivers waiting for them in the airport or came within 10-15 min||Fourth- there have been miscommunications between Sameh (our email contact person) and our guide such as twin share , I emailed Sameh to double check and when we arrived it’s still double not twin|Also we updated Sameh on our drop off hotel is Shangrila hotel not western tushin and again this information was not followed through||I would be happy to accept the above if you charge $5-700 US dollars per day but when you want to charge a higher price (premium fee), you need to provide a premium service and show why you charge much higher. Luxury travellers are not dumb and they can differentiate based on their experiences.||This is one of the not so good experience I have had and I will not recommend three camels lodge to any of my medical colleagues , friends and family||We could probably get similar experience half the price at other tours|I have travelled extensively and stayed at many top hotels in the world|You can charge as much as you like but what you charge needs to match your quality, service and value. Customers are willing to pay and would recommend to similar luxury travellers but we need to find some values and quality to match the fees you charge||I hope you can take this feedback and self reflect, customers have choices and I am telling you what we as luxury travellers want and value and what other authentic/luxury travel tours/hotels are providing for your comparison||The Three Camel lodge manager Sanjay has not since responded to my email for any updates, which is quite disappointing and shows the if the senior management is not having good communication skills, responding to feedback in a timely manner, it is not worth the price they charge (i.e at least $1000 US a day).||You guys can be your own judge on whether you want to fork out that much money to experience the...

We enjoyed very much our trip to Mongolia. We were part of the United Airlines inaugural flight Newark-Ulaanbaatar so had no flexibility about the dates of the stay . Nomadic Expeditions the travel agency was fantastic and made our stay in the desert possible at this very early stage of the season. Undrakh welcomed us in Ulaanbaatar very warmly with the traditional blue scarf and it was such a good start of the trip ! She is a passionate guide and showed us all the facets of her impressive, ambitious, full of vibes city. She went the extra miles for us to optimise our stay in the capital during all our visits. She was sensational in anticipating our needs : She thoughtfully prepared a delicious snack basket for us and coordinated with the next day driver for an optimal transition and long journey to the desert . She advised us some shops and we are grateful as we came back with beautiful cashmere from …. The stunning shop on main square . I bought traditional earrings but noticed I was missing a piece . I was so disappointed and couldn’t believe that Undrakh kindly offered to help me to sort it out . So impressed by such a great dedication. It is more that good customer service it is top professional service and we are so grateful ! We couldn’t have dreamed a better ambassador of her capital city. It exceeded our expectations.

Alma was a star guide in the Gobi desert ! In spite of adverse weather forecasts ( freezing cold and thick fog in the mountains , sand storm in the desert she never gave up trying to overcome the elements ! She is an inexhaustible mine of information and has such a great sense of humour . We enjoyed every step we made in her company. She made sure every minute of our stay was rich , suggesting Mongolian movies in the cinema room for example between 2 activities and constantly checked our comfort, desired pace of travel and satisfaction.

Undrakh and Alma made our stay truly unforgettable.

The drivers were also excellent, considerate and thoughtful. We drove 9 hours to go to the desert and thanks to their kindness and skilled & safe driving the journey was smooth . We were dropped on the way to a place where we could get a snack and very clean restrooms. Every time they could they pointed us interesting things along the road, stopping us a THE picture spot !!! The cars were always spotless and punctually ready for our discoveries. We enjoyed the river drive (we could even see a fox!), the walking sticks always available and the warm coffee with biscuits in the boot after our freezing walk to the frozen waterfalls!!!

The Three Camel Lodge is a gem ! And we had it all for ourselves! Perfectly situated on a hill side …. are stunningly beautiful, tastefully decorated and mega comfortable . From our yurt we could admire a stunning view on the immensity crown with mountains and observe the wild horses coming to the community well. A unique spectacle! The common area is beautifully decorated and the bar very welcoming and the coaches with their thick soft blanket were an invitation to relaxation ! We must confess very happy to be able to stay connected with a good access to internet . We had so much to share !!!! All staff was impeccable, anticipating our needs and fulfilling our dreams like archery lesson . The lodge chooses carefully their partnership with the locals : the camel farm was a delightful moment in a cosy yurt! What an interesting encounter. The chef and the restaurant staff deserve our compliments for all the delicious and varied specialities they prepared for us!

Such a committed team such a synergy ! Five stars

Merci to all of you from the three of us , for your faultless and exceptional hospitality. You made our...

We spent one night at Three Camel Lodge, paying over $1,400 for two people, and it was by far the worst value of our entire Mongolia trip.||⸻||🛏️ Room & Grounds| • Our ger smelled of farm animals. The room came with incense sticks which seemed to indicate the unpleasant odor is clearly a known issue.| • While the bathroom and shower were clean and modern, the overall ger experience was no better than other luxury ger camps, most of which charge a fraction of the price.| • The lodge grounds were unremarkable, indistinguishable from the other camps we visited.||⸻||🍽️ Dining| • The food was bland and underwhelming, easily the worst of our entire week in Mongolia.| • Even a basic roadside canteen meal outperformed the vegetable soup, which was just a few carrots and eggplant floating in broth.| • At this price point, we expected a meaningful culinary experience—not this.||⸻||🏇 Activities: Promised vs. Reality||We were most excited about the wide range of activities listed on the lodge’s website: horseback riding, stargazing, archery, scooter rides, cooking classes, spa services, and more. Here’s what actually happened:| • Horseback riding: The guide was missing; the front desk tried to reach them several times, unsuccessfully.| • Stargazing: The person who leads it was in Ulaanbaatar and unavailable. We were offered a pair of binoculars instead.| • Spa services: Fully booked with just one masseuse available. No couples option, unlike other ger camps we stayed at. | • Scooter rides: Fun for 20 minutes—until the battery died and we had to walk one of them back.| • Archery: Available, but brief. The young men running it were kind and helpful, and this was one of the only redeeming experiences.||⸻||🙍‍♀️ Staff Effort vs. Systemic Shortfalls||The young woman at the front desk deserves recognition. She was kind, patient, and did her best to help us with each request. Her repeated apologies and effort to offer alternatives were appreciated. However, it’s clear that the staff are not set up for success, and what we expected for this level of “luxury” was simply not delivered.||⸻||🍸 A Small Silver Lining||The bartender doubled as a DJ, and we genuinely enjoyed our time in the Thirsty Camel Bar—a fun and relaxing spot.||⸻||🚫 In Summary|Don’t be fooled by the international acclaim or premium pricing. Three Camel Lodge is massively overrated and not worth the money. Perhaps when it first opened it was truly mongolias best luxury stay. Mongolia’s rise in tourism has brought a wave of newer, better, more authentic places to stay in the Gobi that provide a much higher-quality experience—for far less. Save your money and...
