It would be inappropriate to compare ger camps in Mongolia to hotels or motels elsewhere. We stayed in a total of 10 on a tour of the country and have rated them against each other. As a point of reference ger camps are somewhere between camping and ‘glamping’, far more comfortable than just groundsheet and canvas but also far from the luxury of the ‘camps’ in Botswana or South Africa. ||||What the ger (never call them yurts!) camps had in common was safety, spotless cleanliness (truly amazing given their remote locations), spacious gers and comfortable beds. Food was usually plentiful, edible but bland. Most breakfasts were buffet style and both lunch and dinner were three or four courses - typically salad, a meat course with a vegetarian option and canned fruit or cake for dessert.||||Terelj Lodge is near the capital UB and is therefore inevitably larger and busier than more remote camps. It attracts many tour groups and is consequently more crowded, nosier and less than an authentic ger experience. That said, the gers themselves are comfortable and have the bonus of a balcony. The camp has electricity and sometimes hot showers. The restaurant service is breakneck speed - 4 courses in 20 minutes - in a dining room that feels like a hotel....

Gers were spacious with a private patio but this encourages people to sit out late at night talking and disturbing those nearby. Food at dinner was good but breakfast options were a bit limited and they need more than one coffee machine. WiFi was patchy and didn't extend much beyond the dining hall. Given the wide choice of accommodation options available in the park I was disappointed and would recommend...
