I’ve just returned from a night at this hotel as part of a group of nine family members, seven of whom are Mongolian. It’s a very impressive hotel on arrival, making the rough road leading up to it appear immaterial. One of my Mongolian family members was treating us to the night and we couldn’t have been more impressed. ||The reception area looks lovely, but that was where the disappointment started. My Mongolian niece had used the hotel several times in the past and it was she who went to check us into three rooms in the main building. It was a while before the check-in clark started to attend to her, and even longer to hand over room keys. ||As the main guests of the family, my wife, daughter and I were granted the privilege of choosing which of the rooms on the first floor we’d have. The first impression was that all the rooms looked lovely, but they were all very hot. Our 7-year old daughter decided which room we’d have and before unpacking I switched on the A/C to cool down the room. It did nothing. It transpired that it didn’t work in the other two rooms used by our family.||The over-bath shower worked ok but so annoying to have water leaking in all directions and the shower curtain clinging to your body when using it. But it was still bliss after nearly a week in Ulaanbaatar without hot water!||We were unable to use the restaurant at the time we wanted because it was booked out for a presentation. When we did eventually get in, it was a very long time before we were offered food menus. On a hot day, what I most wanted was a drink. Again it took a long time to get a drinks menu - which didn’t include wine, despite many bottles being on display behind me. At last I had my cold beer and we all chose what to eat from the relatively small menu. Unable to get a wine list, I reached behind me for a bottle of Australian Shiraz Cabernet, which turned out to be excellent after lots of back and forth by our waitress to find out if we could have it. (A wine list did eventually arrive and our hand-picked wine was on it!)||Well over an hour later, the first two plates of food appeared. Over the next 30 to 40 minutes a further six plates of food appeared. My wife gave up waiting for hers (identical to her brother’s that was one of the first to arrive) and cancelled it. She shared some of my pizza instead. Meanwhile, her sister tried to get something done about her spaghetti carbonara that was stone cold. They eventually took it away - never to be seen again.||Fortunately I had had the foresight to open the windows to let some cooler air into our room, and close the curtains to keep the sun out. So our room was just about comfortable enough. The other two rooms remained hot, with part of our family (including grandparents in their 80s) unable to sleep because of the heat.||Breakfast turned out to be a fixed plate of food comprising a Mongolian ‘soup’ that my relatives enjoyed together with a hot dog sausage sitting on a small slice of bread, an over-cooked egg and some salad. Those of us who wanted water had to pay extra!||A little later on my daughter and I were asked to move away from the front of the hotel because they were expecting a wedding party to arrive. All guests were asked to return to our rooms! About an hour later the celebrity bride and the rest of the gathering arrived, greeted by more staff than we’d seen during our stay. ||The hotel certainly had the potential to be wonderful, but let down by far too many things. The views front and back are amazing, but with such poor service they’re not enough to make me...
Read moreThis was by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had in Mongolia. Let me start with how first of terrible the customer service was. The receptionist first of all was hungover from the new year party from the day before and was not helpful. The wifi was down the entire day, and we were told to use our data. Hot was was not working to shower, we were told to take a bath from a water boiler and bucket. They were out of toilet paper and out of heater at night. The food was cold and found hair in it. The room locks were broken and when asked them if they would be responsible if anything were to get lost, they “reassured” us that such thing wouldnt happen. The rooms were filled with cigarette smoke to which we went to complain, and they denied anyone smoked. This was all in day one of our arriving ya’ll. Here comes day TWO, the meeting room we used the previous day was not cleaned with crumbs and dirty plates on table. ( we paid to book the meeting room.) found cigarette buds in one of the juice bottles in the meeting room. (None us smoke.) during lunch we were asked to immediately switch our room to a new-coming guest because they wanted a room on the second floor, and asked us to move. Here we move to the third floor and find that the doors are working, but now the heater is completely gone and the curtains are broken and on the ground. When we asked them to come and fix it, noone was sent. At this point we were getting really annoyed and frustrated to have such treatment and just wanted to leave. Comes day THREE and now they have lot more guests since its Saturday. During lunch they forgot 5 of our meals and gave it to other guests and asked us if we could “NOT order food,” because they’ll need to cook again. We were pretty fed up at this point and let out our frustration and nothing was discounted nor no compensation was given. Thank you for listening to this rant. I have never written a review in my life, but this felt like a special case. NEVER book...
Read moreThe scenic beauty was captivating; however, I cannot recommend this place to any tourists or travelers. We had booked three rooms the day before our arrival at 2 pm, with two of us being foreigners. Upon reaching the hotel, we were informed that our rooms weren't ready due to cleaning, and we were promised a 30-minute wait. However, when we finally got to our rooms, they were in a deplorable state—dirty and disorganized. The cleaning staff took an exorbitant amount of time, causing considerable embarrassment for my foreign friends. When we inquired about the delay, we were told it would take another two hours.
When we addressed the issue with the reception, they shifted blame, insisting it was not their fault that the cleaning service was slow. Opting for lunch at the hotel restaurant, our food took an unreasonably long time to arrive. The hot teas we attempted to order were repeatedly unavailable. Some dishes were served cold, and the cooked rice resembled day-old leftovers from the fridge. The wait for the food seemed interminable, with one dish taking about an hour to arrive, and the rest coming after an hour and twenty minutes.
Back in my room with a foreign friend, I encountered a lack of amenities in the bathroom after using the facilities. There was no nearby air freshener, ventilation, or window, leaving me concerned about eliminating the odor. It took over an hour for the smell to dissipate after allowing air from the room's large window into the bathroom.
During dinner, we ordered a meat collection and three dumpling dishes, all of which arrived cold. Exhausted and unwilling to confront the issues again, we reluctantly ate the food, with the entire dining experience lasting much longer than anticipated. Considering the overall unsatisfactory experience, including a less-than-pleasant bathroom situation, the high cost of the stay seemed unjustified for a hotel of this caliber. We have decided not to return to this...
