Stayed here for a night to get out of the traffic of Ulaanbaatar. Loved it. Oldy worldy feel. The rooms were large and luxurious. Think suites rather than bedrooms. The restaurant food was nice, but the portions are huge, so think carefully before adding. Several times we needed to be carried back to the room :) Batnyam on reception was brilliant. Very fluent in English, but more importantly, courteous and professional. They were more than happy for us to check out late (offering even 4pm!). He would belong in any 5 star hotel.
Decent fitness room, modern technogym equipment, so more than enough for a work out. The pool is probably its biggest let down, which is actually a shame as it's actually one of its biggest selling points. The pool lights don't work, and the whole pool area needs a proper clean. Swimming in the evening (it was open until 10pm) with googles proved difficult as the water looked murky. It's clean, don't get me wrong, but I felt it let the property down a bit. The jacuzzi was also a bit greenish. It felt tired. Same thing, needs a proper clean and maybe a retile. The banya (sauna) in the mens wasn't so hot, so didn't bother there, but even still, the hotel is a great place to relax. Lots of nice nooks and a library etc. If you wanted some peace and quiet to read a book somewhere outside of your room, this is the place.
The territory isn't that large, and not that much to really see within the grounds although the terrace at the back of the property overlooks the river and a large hill (baby mountain). It's very picturesque. I'd recommend walking along the road for a few kilometers, turning left, and then cutting back along to the property through the woodlands until you reach the river. Was a nice 4km little stroll.
Would definitely return. It's expensive, but we were happy with the...
Read moreWe originally were to stay there on August 16, but the hotel cancelled our reservation a few weeks before arrival because they were hosting an event that night. Quite upsetting, we had to rearrange our tour which left us with less than 18 hours to stay there later in August (in between our Gobi stay and last 2 nights in Mongolia). I should have just cancelled completely with them, but I was really looking forward to dine in their fine restaurant
The hotel is beautiful, and the surrounding park lovely. The room was excellent, comfortable and plenty of hot water (but a tub instead of a walk in shower, my pet peeve). Service was excellent as well.
However, for a luxury hotel, there were some disappointments. First and foremost, and the main reason I wanted to stay there - the main restaurant was closed! The one where they serve the multi course meals that reviews rave about. Apparently when they are not full, they don’t open that restaurant! I wish they had informed us before, I would have skipped the long drive out there for 1 night. We ate at the other restaurant, and it was disappointing. The tomahawk steak was supposed to be medium rare and it was medium to well done and tough. The roasted vegetables we ordered were not cooked enough and inedible. The rest was just ok.
Breakfast was cooked to order in a lovely room overlooking the river and was very good. The last disappointment was the pool/jacuzzi. On both, the water was not clear and I was worried about the condition. The jacuzzi was colder than the pool. They called the manager who apologized and said they would “turn it on” and it would be ready the next morning. Well we had to leave after breakfast (we really came to enjoy that restaurant that was closed!!!), so that was not helpful. ...
Read moreThe place looks really great on the outside. We went in the hotel to see about a room and the staff were absolutely the worst jerks we have ever met at a hotel reception desk in the world, really, we've traveled all over. We were the only people looking to rent some rooms as it is the slow season. The hotel was empty, no other boarders. They refused to help us come up with a solution for our family and our driver. They wouldn't let us keep our small children in our room because the number exceeded the ' limits'. While we were talking with them, about car of four people and they left and went to the hotel next door (Ulaanbaatar-2). There were two people at the desk, a ' manager' and a trainee. The manager refused to help us ( we speak both English and Mongolian, so no excuses about lost in translation in this one) and wouldn't try and work something out. The trainee, got fed up because we called it his rudeness to us and he decided to turn his back on us and said he is going home ( perhaps he should stay there). To add salt on this, they were trying to sell us the more expensive rooms, which we repeated told them many times we did not want. In any case, we haven't ever seen the lack of costumer service, ever. If anybody reads this just don't stay there, it isn't worth the effort of getting there, it is relatively expensive, and you can expect rudeness. You know, renting one our two rooms when you're hotel is empty is better than keeping it empty. We hope the owners wherever they maybe, reads this, and goes over how to win and keep guests satisfaction, it is certainly lacking here. Our worst experience...
