First impressions outside this hotel are of an unusual, modern design and inside its decoration gives it a charming rustic feel. However the design failings and poor maintenance soon become apparent. With no a/c it’s very hot in summer especially on the higher floors. The internal open gallery allows hot air and noise to rise from the lobby and bars. The first floor was particularly noisy from scraping furniture in the dining room below. The rooms require a full makeover. Things like broken curtain rails need fixing. The shower was impossible to use without flooding the floor and other members of our group said their bathrooms had exactly the same issues. Our group also made comments on the ridiculous bedding - maybe a thick duvet and quilted topper are required in winter, but why leave them on the beds when it’s 25 centigrade outside! Housekeeping was haphazard.|The most serious problems were meal times. The Chives restaurant (on the website as a la carte) was always buffet. We never saw the second restaurant (mentioned on the website) open. The eating facilities simply couldn’t cope with the number of guests - at every meal (we had 6) food and crockery ran out. One morning we were told to use glasses or bowls for coffee as there were no clean cups. Most bowls were chipped. The layout of the buffet was dreadful with food and crockery badly positioned and the entire area was far too small to enable guests to move about and select food. Mealtimes became a dreaded long, unpleasant queue and fight (sometimes literally!) for food. |The restaurant staff appeared continually stressed, other hotel staff were indifferent, unhelpful and generally disinterested in their role. The only cheery guy we encountered was the bar man. ||Would not recommend this hotel. It doesn’t deserve its...
Read moreThrough no fault of the hotel's, unfortunately my stay was ridden with huge families with screaming children everywhere. It sounds like a kindergarten playground in the evenings, and the yells/screams can be heard from within my hotel room with the door closed. They were near full capacity for my stay, so understandably they cannot control all of their guests (who rightfully paid for their time there too).
That said, WOW. The facilities are insanely gorgeous. Beautiful, rustic wood with a cozy fireplace, excellent and very kind hotel staff, and really top notch food. The buffets, while hectic with the families and small kids, had fresh salads, a variety of stewed, roasted, and cold cut meats, pastas, soups, an fantastic selection of fresh fruit, and an impressive dessert spread. The pool area is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful - what an incredible place to spend my afternoons! As long as the facilities are used during non-peak hours, the hotel is an absolute dream of an experience. The gym is well equipped with treadmills, free weights, a huge variety of machines, and an ice-cold water cooler with a view by the pool.
I do wish there could be better communication to parents to take screaming kids outside and not to allow them to run around the hotel lobby unattended, but irresponsible parents shall not be the reason I dock a star for this gorgeous resort that is doing their best.
The internet was a bit spotty on some days, and I was working remotely so I had to tether from my phone several times. That said, I haven't seen better internet service anywhere else in the area so it's likely a...
Read moreSeveral years ago when we used to visit Kolasin, the hotel appeared more luxurious. But this time I found an outdated version of it. For instance, the room door had a hole in the middle and our room was positioned right in front of the elevators. We had to hang a towel to feel at ease. The a la carte menu at the restaurant was very expensive and terribly cooked. It really was a waste of money to eat there!! If you can’t prepare a decent meal, take it out of the menu and just stick to the cevapcici you can do. The half board menu during breakfast and dinner time was much better. 2 young waitresses at the restaurant were very impolite and unfriendly and made us feel totally unwelcomed . We were the only table in the restaurant and our three kids (the youngest 4 yrs old) were playing with each other. The waitress with the glasses told us with a sour face that it was not a park, but a restaurant. While at dinner time , it was fully packed and everywhere there were children screaming and shouting but she didn’t seem to notice. Huge swimming pool but water was cold and not pleasurable to swim,at least during the first minutes. You could not order drinks or smth to eat for the kids while staying at the pool. I have been in several hotel swimming pools in Europe, and you can have an aperitiv and really relax. The staff at reception are nice and welcoming and spoke good English. Overall, I don’t think I’ll repeat this experience anytime soon. Expect for the pool spa and the huge building, I wouldn’t consider it a 4...
