We stayed at Gîte d’étape Tamaloute during our visit to the High Atlas Mountains, and it was one of the most memorable parts of our trip.
Set in a charming village alive with the sounds of traditional Moroccan life—mules passing through, the call to prayer echoing through the valley, and rivers flowing nearby—the setting alone is worth the stay.
The hotel itself is beautiful and authentically Moroccan. Meals and social gatherings take place in one building, while the rooms and smaller communal spaces are in another. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and while there are no TVs, that’s exactly the point—this is a place to disconnect and truly soak in your surroundings.
The food was fantastic—fresh, flavorful, and nourishing after a day in the mountains. But what really stood out was the staff. Almost all from the same family, they welcomed my partner and me as if we were one of their own. Their warmth and hospitality made us feel completely at home.
We’d love to return—not just to revisit the breathtaking scenery, but to see the wonderful people who made our stay so special. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a genuine experience in...
Read moreThe host and other workers are impolite, apart from kitchen staff, they seemed okay and food was adequate and healthy, though a bit bland.||Several men, (unsure what their role is there, whether they are workers, family members or friends of the owner), spend day and evening either sitting in the doorway to the communal area/dining room, blocking the entrance, or laying down sleeping inside on the couches. About 8-10 men sat in the common area staring at tourists eating dinner.||The children are vile, pestering tourists for money constantly.||The rooms are basic but comfortable enough, though no fridge or functional showers. Hot water is hit & miss, as is the wifi. Wifi is only in the common dining area and only seems to work for a couple of minutes occasionally. The dining room is full of flies.||The area is somewhat scenic, but not as nice as other locations. I would not recommend coming to this town, if you can even call it a town & would definitely not recommend the...
Read moreThis was the largest Gîte we stayed in during our tour. We shared our accommodation with other international organisations, who obviously use this location on a regularly basis on their tours. The owner, family and staff members were all very welcoming and attentive. Our family room was comfortable, but the beds were a little on the hard side and duvets were too hot. Shower in the morning was cold. Great food was served in the cave or on the terrace and this we enjoyed with the other international group who was there. We spent two nights at the gîte. On day 2 we spent the whole day with one of the staff members Youssef who spoke a little English and French. The owner dropped us off by car and we made an amazing day walk of 16km through the gorges, valleys, villages and gardens. We ate a great tagine in a big old family run kasbah, which was a nice experience. The amazing rock formations and colours in the rose valley make this area...
