We went here for a surfing and yoga retreat for our Christmas holidays.
First, the pros: the room was decent with a nice view of the sea. The panoramic view was beautiful.
The buffet breakfast and dinner were vegan-friendly. I loved the traditional Moroccan dishes they served us. They had plant milk which was great (rice though, wish it were soy instead, but a minor thing.)
We got Fatima as our surf instructor, and I appreciated her eagerness to help us learn. The yoga practice with Ata was challenging, and seeing the sun set as we finished yoga was a wonderful experience.
However, there are lots of areas for improvement, starting with our room. We got the Flow room at the third floor, where the bathroom flooded constantly. The staff knew this problem well enough because there was a mop in the bathroom when we checked in, but they didn't bother to warn us about this. It's horrible to always try not to shower too long because you don't want the whole bathroom to flood.
On the fourth day of our retreat, we were told there wouldn't be enough waves to surf, so we were given the option to go to Paradise Valley instead. The trip was interesting, but knowing they can see surfing conditions days ahead through an online platform, they could've warned us before taking this trip. It seemed like poor planning for me.
It feels a bit deceptive to have promotional photos of people doing yoga by the beach. While it's stated on the website that the yoga sessions are done indoors, the photos on the website gave the impression that the location was a short distance to the beach: it isn't.
The yoga room also wasn't large enough to accommodate all of us. For a surf and yoga retreat that cost as much as it did, it didn't guarantee you a spot in the room every day. You had to go to the room ten minutes earlier so you can make sure you can practice.
Towards the tail end of the retreat, there were so many guests that there weren't enough chairs on the main table. It felt disorganized and people struggled to find a seat.
Overall, the experience was good. We met nice people and had a memorable time. It's a shame that it could've been better if it had been planned more...
Read moreI spent one week at Blue Mind with a retreat organized by my Yoga teacher. We have surf lessons included in the package, as well as the accommodation and full board. It was amazing! The camp is bohemian styled and you can see how the owners Sandra and Khalid put a lot of effort into all the little details that make this place so special.
The spacious entrance area serves as lounge area, as well as breakfast and dinner location. The kitchen staff is very kind and cookes up the best dishes - displayed in a beautiful setting. Every single one of us was able to find their favorite food on the buffet each meal. The rooms are very clean. The interior is reduced to a minimum but fits into the overall look and feel that the owners were going for. The only thing I was missing was a bar of soap for the hands - and that was an easy fix :) The surf coaches are very experienced and therefore the quality of the lesson were next level. I never though I could stand up on a board straight away on the first day but yes I did :) And the way how the coaches are rooting for you and celebrate your mini successes by cheering you on is just so special.
Next to all the surroundings this trip was certainly made special by the people who hosted us. Khalid as the owner making sure every single day that all of us are pleased, Mohammed being so attentive that he knew your wishes sometimes even before you knew them, Aziz and Nordin who were bubbly and laughing all the time, bringing on the good vibes, Mustapha as the silent, all time smiling guy how captured our best moments in great photos and last but certainly not least Abdul who with his amazing patience and great soul made everyone feel included.
I personally have to say that this trip and especially the people I was allowed to meet changed my perspective on the country and their people a lot - I have never felt as warmly welcomed as here. If you are looking for body and mind soul food - this is the...
Read moreOccasionally you come to places throughout your life that are a true reflection of the people whom occupying them, for me Blue Mind is one of those. Encapsulating all the most beautiful aspects of Moroccan culture my stay here was one of the most fulfilling and satisfying I’ve experienced. Khalid and his wonderful team reflect the generosity and open nature of the beautiful land they inhabit and I’ve made memories and friends that I’ll keep for life!
The house and all associated facilities are not only incredibly clean but thoughtfully designed, the rooms have everything you need, housekeeping is available, common spaces are stylish and comfortable and the rooftop especially offers unrivalled sunset views of the ocean and surrounding village.
The surf and yoga lessons are fantastic, and it’s clear to see that the teachers genuinely care about your progression and enjoyment, they work super hard to ensure you feel safe and comfortable and you can feel the genuine warmth in which they treat all their guests. No request goes unheard and they are more than happy to help you organise any extra activities you might also want to do.
Another incredible part of the experience at blue mind is the food! The girls in the kitchen prepare everything by hand and it’s fabulous! I watched as they catered to all dietary requirements in both big and small groups and no matter what your preferences they were always very accomodating.
I’ve absolutely fallen in love with Morocco, the land itself which is unmatched in its beauty as well as it’s generous people who are kind, incredibly accommodating and filled with positivity. Huge thanks to everyone at Blue mind who works so hard to provide such high levels of service. I can’t...
