My wife and I served in the Peace Corps years ago in Marrakesh, so were happy to take two other couples on a visit to Morocco. We got to Imlil fairly often because it was the jump off site for many High Atlas hiking trips. I wanted to summit Toubkal, so Imlil it was. We tried to get into the ritzy Kasbah de Toubkal but they were booked, so we settled for this place.||||Honestly, it was great. Very unpretentious, rooms were clean if not deluxe, and the food, served on the rooftop "garden", was simple but really tasty. Everything was very family oriented, including the staff. Loaner jallabas for everyone, which I used as a sleeping bag one night in the climbers' hut up on Toubkal. ||||During the night I was on Toubkal, our friends went up to the Kasbah for dinner. What a zoo. In their experience, it was a bunch of spoiled rich tourists complaining about the occasional mosquitoes, food "not like home", and one even objected that it got dark too early. ||||Our fellow guests were unpretentious and fun to talk to. The proprietors and staff were all friendly and eager to please. We were lucky the Kasbah was full and we booked this place. It's much closer to "real" Morocco than the Kasbah can ever be. ...
Read moreReally poor restaurant experience this evening. We ordered Harira Soup for us all and Mushroom and cream pasta for my vegetarian daughter, Kefta for me and my son. We explained my daughter does not eat meat and was assured this was understood. We ordered drinks including lemon juice. The soup came after about 1 hour but was cold, sent back, came back again after another wait, was cold in some areas, hot in others like it had been microwaved. Then my daughter asked me what a thing was in her soup. I tried it and it was obviously a small piece of beef. The lemon juice that came eventually after 1 hour was in fact orange juice, but was nice. Then the pasta came but it was meat Bolognese pasta which was the final straw. We left upset, my daughter in tears for accidentally eating meat after more than 10 years. We did not pay after having only X3 small bowls of soup and some juice and the restaurant accepted this to their credit. Would not recommend for food based on our...

We were greeted with refreshing pots of mint tea which we drank whilst sitting in the delightful garden listening to the Imam calling the faithful to prayer at the local mosque. After eight nights in a tent with no shower or proper toilet, to have a comfortable room furnished with lots of local atmosphere and its own little bathroom was sheer luxury! It is a very, very simple place but provides good, simple food, clean rooms, lots of hot water and comfy beds all at an extremely reasonable price.||If you are looking for luxury this isn't it. If you want a day or two where you can relax in peace and quiet yet be centrally-located in this busy little town which is the last outpost before the ascent into the High Atlas, then you will find this...
