Jamal answered promptly to all my emails/questions prior to my Toubkal trip and he waited almost 2 hours for me to clear this insanely chaotic immigration queue at Marrakech airport. Pick-up was in a nice 4x4 , took about 1 hour 15 mins and cost 40 EUR one-way to the Imlil Lodge.
However, he gave me a grumpy greeting because I made him wait (which wasn't really my fault) and then sped aggressively through the night (on those dodgy roads!) to make up for the lost time.
The Lodge itself is situated a good 25 minute hike steep up the hill in Tamatert outside of Imlil and I was charged 30 EUR per night for the dorm bed although other booking sites state 14.50 EUR. I was given the explanation that this price only counts at full occupancy of the dorm but since I was travelling by myself and unfortunately nobody else stayed these days I had to pay more - I don't get the logic.
Rooms are basic, spacious and clean. Breakfast was average and ample + I could rent trekking poles for 3 EUR/day. WiFi only works in the rooms downstairs but upstairs is a nice roof-top terrace. It's a peaceful place, an excellent base for before and after a big hike up the mountains.
On the last day another guest has booked/paid transport back to the airport but when I tried to share the ride with him they said I must additionally pay the full price of 40 EUR as transport cost is (suddenly) by person. He wasn't even willing to meet the price in the middle to make it more reasonable. I read other comments here where couples and families were picked up altogether for 40 EUR and I can't imagine they paid per person. He only wanted to squeeze out as much money as possible which was a stupid thing to do, really! I had to walk all the way back down to the village where I negotiated a 22 EUR private taxi ride back to Marrakech.
They still have to learn a lot about customer service at this place: Guests come back if u "wow" them and not if you let them leave with a greedy/bad impression right at...
Read moreI stayed here for a few nights in January, and would recommend to anyone looking for a cheap & clean base in the Atlas Mountains. ||Firstly, the staff are lovely; helpful, friendly, nothing is too much trouble & they will help with airport transfers, trekking guides etc.||Secondly, you will eat like a King; breakfast was Moroccan bread, eggs, pancakes, fruit, tea/coffee, jams etc. Lunch was a huge salad followed by a delicious tagine (chicken / meatball / vegetable) and Dinner/Tea more of the same.||Finally, staying at Imlil Lodge won't break the bank. There are more expensive & luxury hotels/lodges around, so it really depends on your budget / preferences. ||The wifi will come & go, the rooms are basic, but it felt like staying with family & i'd definitely...
Read moreGreat experience. We traveled in a group and had a guided hike to Toubkal. We slept in this very nice accommodation. The rooms are magical. They are spacious and clean. The bed linen and towels smell nice. In the morning you are greeted by the smell of breakfast. The food is very good. During the day you can enjoy the view on the terrace of the surroundings and the surrounding mountains, and in the evening the starry sky. I would like to highlight Ayoub, who, with his colleague Mustafa and the others, ensured a pleasant trek through the Atlas. I would like to praise the organization and his ability to make decisions in critical situations. Thank you for the amazing experience and for the feeling of acceptance, of home. Great job. I have...
