Our trip to the Sahara, and the Saharian Camp, was an excellent experience, and the 4 Star rating rather than 5 primarily reflects the fact that the camp is part of a string of camps along the range of the Sahara, which makes for a more suburban/cookie cutter feeling rather than being lost in the desert. The pros included: Camel rides in and out of camp Friendly staff, including the gregarious host Omar, who spoke excellent English and Spanish -Delicious food - the best beef we had in Morocco and a dessert including bananas, whipped cream, and date juice that we still talk about -Luxury amenities - wifi, USB chargers, unlimited hot water, flushing toilets
The cons: -The camp is a stone's throw away from other camps in either direction, which makes it feel quite touristy (not like an African safari or Amazon camp where you don't see other humans outside of the camp) -Sunrise views are not from the dunes, which was disappointing for us; they suggested watching from the back of the tent, which overlooks a flat, barren desert. I'd recommend clarifying, and specifically request the experience, if interested. -Camel guides, who are employed by the camp, tried to sell their wares before taking us into the camp, which we found quite underwhelming for a luxury camp experience -Beds...
Read moreRead moreWe made reservations with Tenere Camp but then it changed the name for Hakim Camp anyway the important thing here is that we had an amazing night with Hakim s company and recommendation. First he picked us up in a Hotel in Merzouga ( meeting point ) with his Toyota SUV had a short camel ride just the 4 of us ( we did not want 1 1/2 hour camel ride because we had read how painful it was afterwards. then we continued in his SUV through the dunes to his luxury tents. After arriving we opened wine we had bought in the road and had relaxing time with our friends and with Hakim ( berber with great knowledge about his country and culture) Each couple had their own tent. No A/C in the tent but it was a cold night in March/19. He had his staff prepare candlelight dinner for us with Reeda even playng for us . We saw the stars We saw the sunset and the dawn .We walked and lay down in the dunes. Thank you Hakim for all...
Absolutely fantastic. Information about checkin and location was flawless. We came on motorbikes at hotel Yasmin and were immediately greeted by 4x4 driver who took us to the camp for 13euro both ways. Location of camp is superb, its deep enough to see nice stars, far away from other camps to experience quiet night. We were 4 friends and supposed to sleep in one tent, they werent full and gave us 2 tents upgrade for free, highly appreciated! 3 very nice Berber's took care of us (Barak, Ahmed, Haddouh - sorry if I misspeled it, it is already 1 week we have been there :D). Breakfast and dinner were much better then we expected for the time and place being in Sahara desert. They even had possibilities to buy cold beer. We stayed one night and it...
