Kasbah Agounsane really is a beautiful place to stay. Very peaceful with some lovely suites. We had a small one that was very dark and only the small patio to see but I do know that there are some larger brighter ones there. It is exceptionally clean in the main areas and our room was made up one morning that we were there (we stayed 3 nights). The staff didnt remove glasses or bottle which I thought was strange but they changed towels. ||The pool area is lovely and very clean. There were several broken sunbeds and my partner's broke while he was lying on it so it would be nice to see broken ones removed/replaced. The gardens are tired and quite over grown but still nice and it really is lovely to be surrounded by such wonderful scenery. We had the pool to ourselves for most of the time - in fact for the first day and half we seemed to be the only people there.||There is no service for drinks - you need to go upstairs to the hotel and wait for a member of staff to come out to you. There was hardly anyone working but we found out it was because staff were holiday themselves. However the staff available worked hard and were very friendly.||We were half board which I would recommend for a 2 night stay but no longer it is very limited with only 4 or 5 mains to choose from - Im vegetarian and I had a pasta or a vegetable Tagine to choose from. I dont know if they had another menu for people not half board but if they do I would recommend that for choice or walk into the town as there looked to be some restaurants there. Again the same staff member usually served us in evenings too and he worked very hard and was very polite and helpful.||It was my 50th birthday while we were there and my partner asked Secret Escapes to put in a special request for some flowers/champagne. He also emailed the hotel and sent them a messenger requesting the same - at a cost of course he just wanted some extras arranged to make the day special. He also mentioned it when we checked in. Unfortunately I didnt even get a "Happy Birthday" from them which was really disappointing for my partner who felt he had let me down. It really is the perfect setting for a special occasion and could have been wonderful but I would say its the last place to choose for one.||We did make use of the Spa and and booked a Hammam and Massage. I dont think the Spa is staffed full time as the lady who came was very scruffy and it all seemed very rushed - we also could only have it at 4pm on the days we wanted to book in the morning. Lovely small spa though which smelt amazing.||Another thing to be aware when we went to pay with our Card but they wanted to be paid in cash which really caught us out as we didnt have enough Dirhams so paid a large sum in Sterling and some on the card. We realised afterwards the exchange rate they gave us was £1 to 10 dirhams it should have been about 12.5 so we got a bit fleeced!||This is definitely a mixed review I know and I dont like to give negative reviews but it really was disappointing service wise. We did however go back to Marrakech and had my celebrations on another day which...
Read morePerhaps this was once a lovely hotel, as per the circa 2015 online reviews and photos, but in July 2017, we found this to be a dreadful place, which, whilst in a wonderful location with great views, has now fallen into disrepair. We have visited Arabic countries before, including Marrakech and so were experienced and well prepared to visit this wonderful country. However, the online photos from 2015 misrepresent the current state of the situation at this hotel.
Where do I start. We were the only hotel guests during our seven day stay (Wednesday to Wednesday). Largely ignored by management. No regular reception desk. Had to search for staff when problems arose. Hotel did not have running water for 4 days out of 7, whilst enduring 46 – 48-degree heat during the day. No showers or washing facilities during this time. Toilet cisterns emptied after one flush. Had to search the hotel to use ones in public spaces. Poolside toilets un-hygienic. Resorted to using hand gel and hand wipes we brought with us. This called into question any effective hygiene regime of chef/kitchen when preparing meals.
Witnessed water being brought to hotel by tractor and water bowser. No other means of providing water. Management blamed hotel location near mountains. When water came back on it was cold. No hot water in the hotel all week.
Pool pump and filtration not working. Floating algae with tadpoles and fly lava in the pool. No attempt to rectify this during our stay. Broken poolside tiles creating trip/fall hazard and fixed with wooden batons.
No gym facilities. Spa facilities not in use, someone had to be called onto site to perform Massage & Hammam. Limited menu, had to resort to asking what they had available. No alcohol in the hotel, no beer, no wine, no spirits or cocktails.
Felt tension between management and staff on Sunday evening and after hearing raised voices, cleaners, reception staff and waiter walked out, leaving us with the manager, the chef and a gate guard. No room service from Sunday onwards. No clean bedding all week, despite unsanitary conditions being experienced.
Although there was 'Visa Welcome' signs in reception, management insisted all payments for soft drinks and meals being made in cash every three days for 'accounting purposes', it felt like this hotel was operating a hand to mouth existence.
Had to walk 3km to nearest bank/cashpoint to service managements cash demands for drinks and meals. Bought and carried bottled water back to hotel because we weren't confident we could rely on the hotel.
All in all, felt like the necessary due diligence had not been undertaken by those advertising/selling this holiday, which is now the subject of complaint.
Would I go back to Marrakech – Absolutely
Would I go back to this hotel – only as a time traveler, say...
