What an awesome place to stay! Well worth the one and a half hour journey from the airport. The photos you see don't lie. A stunningly beautiful part of Morocco and we were thrilled to have discovered it! The accommodation has a rustic, Moroccan charm, it's clean and comfortable with really efficient air conditioning. It's as quiet as its rural location will allow, as long as you're ok with the odd cockerel call or the early morning call to prayer from the mosque across the valley. |We can't write a Kasbah Africa review without mentioning the amazing hospitality at the place! My husband and I felt so well looked after. Sofiane, the manager, took care of us, personally arranging a walking guide so we could explore the local area, and he organised transport for our day trip into Marrakech, even giving us his personal mobile number so we could WhatsApp him with a return pick up time. Our Berber-speaking driver only had a few words of English so Sofiane did all the communicating for us. We had a brilliant day in Marrakech, and enjoyed the sensory overload offered by Medina and its souks. Our return to the tranquility of the Atlas Mountains was very welcome at the end of the day, reiterating the fact that we had made the right choice with our away-from-it-all place to stay.|The food at Kasbah Africa is something special, all beautifully prepared from locally sourced and home-grown ingredients. We didn't know what to expect from a Moroccan breakfast, this being our first visit to the African continent. On day one, we encountered a buffet table with a toaster, bread, cereals, milk, butter, jams, cheese spread, chocolate spread, tomato and cucumber salad, various meats and Moroccan mint tea. There was also a large tagine of Berber omelette. My husband and I don't eat meat, so we helped ourselves to some toast, spreads, tomato and a spoonful of omelette. Rashid then arrived at our table with servings of Moroccan pancakes, crumpets and other varieties of local breads and cakes, together with orange juice and milk. Clearly, we weren't going to need lunch that day! At the breakfast table the following morning, Rashid asked us if we'd like Berber omelette again. We said yes, remembering how delicious it was the previous day. What we soon realised was, Rashid must have noticed that we weren't eating any of the meats from the buffet table, so what he was offering was our own personal Berber omelette, served in individual tagines at our table! And so, this continued at every breakfast meal, along with all the pancakes, breads, cakes, etc. Needless to say, we didn't require lunch on any of the days! Nothing was too much trouble for Rashid, and his excellent hospitality continued whenever he was on duty, serving us drinks by the pool and on the terrace. Nothing was too much trouble. We felt so well looked after. |If you're looking for an away-from-it-all escape, somewhere amazingly beautiful with the most wonderful hospitality, then Kasbah Africa is the perfect choice....
Read moreThe Kasbah is wonderfully located on the side of the valley with panoramic views.||The welcome was friendly and efficient and I was grateful for the assistance with the bags given the number of steps down to reception. ||The rooms are stark but spacious with large sliding doors that let the light flood in. There is plenty of room for two extra beds to accommodate a family of four. Everything is spotlessly clean and functional.||The pool area is a little run down. Many of the sun loungers are torn and need replacing. The pool itself looked like it needed a good scrub but I know there had been some rain the day before so maybe this was the issue. A positive is the large grassy area with awnings and olive trees to escape the sun.||Above the pool is a terrace with a fire pit and table tennis table. Unfortunately the bats were in a state of disrepair and the ball crushed. I asked for a replacement but they didn’t have one so we didn’t play. ||I would’ve welcomed more comfortable seating options to sit and enjoy the view. Outside the room were a couple of upright iron chairs which are suited to eating not relaxing. Something lower and softer would’ve made a huge difference. I ended up lying on the bed in the absence of anywhere else to go.||The best part of the stay (substantially contributing to the three stars) was a day’s walking with Hussein. Breathtaking scenery and an outstanding lunch in the village downstream from the Kasbah. It’s amazing how the woman managed to produce such a delicious meal given the circumstances. It’s a great shame she can’t act as a consultant to the Kasbah to improve the food offering which is extremely average. ||The two dinners on a half board basis consisted of a small fatty beef tagine and slightly better chicken couscous. Breakfast isn’t much better with cakes under cling film, dairy lea triangles, cereals, pancakes, and an option to order eggs. Orange juice came from a carton and a request for some fresh fruit was greeted with a shrug (although the local market is full of seasonal fruit).||I have had a house in Morocco for over twenty years and have travelled extensively throughout the country. Compared to almost everywhere else Kasbah Africa is strangely soulless. It’s hard to describe but despite the staff’s best efforts it seems unloved and has a feeling of a government owned property. Although mid range, rates are still high and food and drink prices represent really poor value for money. The location is so special that it is a great shame it’s lacking the certain sparkle...
