Access is tricky. If you email before the trip and ask for directions you stand half a chance, but I would strongly recommend either studying googleearth or phoning the guesthouse for live directions. If you travel in the next few weeks then when travelling south 7km from Asilah you turn left off the state highway no. 1, just after the warning sign for 'cows'. This is at a point where there is some civil engineering construction (bridge?) happening. That sounds bad, but its not. Maybe if you're travelling in a few months there will be a bridge! Anyway, after you turn off the road head along the dust tracks immediately to the left of some building/property (I'm talking 100 to 200m from the main road). You'll begin to see 'Berbari' signs (few and far between) which will help. Then you drive for about 2km on these tracks to get to the house.||||Its all worth it. The place is wonderful, the owner is lovely, the staff are happy, the food is great, the rooms are quirky.||||Obviously, because this is Morocco, not everything works perfectly all the time - that's just the way things are. Don't go to a place like this and complain about intermittent power! And the wifi is a bit flakey.||||Outside our window there were nesting herons (I think) only 20 metres away. The shower is the usual 'mixer tap' variety and the toilet part way down the...
Read moreBerbari is a real gem in the Northern Moroccan countryside. Not easy to get to, though. We were travelling by car, and unable to find it. We called Berbari, and Rachida (Berbari's terrific manager) sent someone to downtown Asilah to guide us to the hotel. It had been raining, so the dirt road to the hotel was not easy to travel, but our car was up to the challenge, and the rain and darkness turned the whole thing into a real adventure, which was topped off by a delicious meal Rachida had waiting for us. The next morning, the sun was shining and we got a first good look at Berbari, and could only fall completely in love with it. Such a charming place, set in beautiful countryside, quiet, with great food on offer in a very cosy lounge. The rooms are just lovely, very authentic, really making you feel as if you're in another world.||There was a problem with the hot water in our room, but Rachida went all out to sort it for us, offering another room to shower in.||Our kids loved the dogs that roam freely at the hotel. ||After we checked out, we had to find our way back to the N1 on our own, and promptly got lost again. We did eventually get to the main road, but all this just added to the mystique...
Read more30 min drive from Assilah, not so easy to find, GPS doesn't help much, 4x4 or at least higher chassis highly recommended. Don't be afraid of missing paved way...||||This Maison d'hôte is in the village, great way to discover rural Morocco, so different from all what you might have seen. Gate, parking, stylish patio / resto with piano, hammocks, trees, you simply change the world again when gate is closed behind you. Relax, nature, vintage accessories. Rooms are quite special, made within old building (stables, barn....), definitely not ordinary architecture. Still there is shower, electricity :-)), don't worry still we're at 21st century even with wi-fi. Just a smell was odd in the room ....||||Rachida is really passionate about this project, service is great, they can cook a pretty nice dinner if you ask in advance, breakfast is typical Moroccan small buffet. ||||Well, definitely an experience, worth to do it if you like more connection with nature, rural and...
