Ksar El Kabbaba — Hotel in caïdat de Skoura

Ksar el Kabbaba provided us with beautiful and relaxing accommodations in a kasbah surrounded by other historic architecture, date palms and so much more. What a delightful and welcome arrival from our hostess with the usual wonderful delicious mouth watering cookies and mint tea served by Ali while we all squatted on the customary cozy cushions. We were ushered to gorgeous, super clean and comfortable suites. Outside they sported lovely verandas where we could enjoy the garden views, the castle in the distance, the expanse of the 200 year old olive tree and watch the sunset. We made excellent use of the massages and hamam in the on site spa facilities during our stay. Unfortunately the beautiful pool was only admired from our outdoor dining table as the water was not yet warm enough for a swim. The dining room settings were lovely for our 3 course Moroccan dinners including beautiful hand embroidered table cloths and napkins sewn by the local Berber ladies whom we had the pleasure of visiting later in Ouarzazate. Chef Mohamed's creations for our bountiful dinners and breakfasts were delicious prepared with local and seasonal ingredients. His photographic skills were also much appreciated!. As was true of so many of our Moroccan stays the staff at the Ksar went above and beyond to ensure that our time was enjoyable and pleasing. Mohamed and Aziz not only prepared our meals but entertained us with stories of their backgrounds as well as music of their own creation. Their laughter, humour and conversations were an integral part of our evening's enjoyment. Thanks to both of you and to Abdul who assisted and to Ali again for his tour through the palms and his scaling of the tree itself to show us how it was done to collect the dates. Abbiamo scelto quest'Hotel per la bellezza e la tranquillità del posto oltre alla vicinanza alle zone da visitare. Siamo arrivati a Skoura da Ouarzazate, 40 km circa, mezz'ora di taxi. Volendo potete prendere un Grand Taxi a Ouarzazate. Trattate sulla corsa, noi abbiamo pagato 90 Diramh, anche se glie ne abbiamo lasciati 100, c'è ne aveva chiesti 300. Ma il taxi era solo per noi tre, altrimenti si fà tipo car sharing se sale altra gente, qui fanno così, e pagano circa 15 Diramh a testa. Skoura è più piccola di Ouarzazate, non c'è tanta vita, di giorno sono aperti tutti i negozietti, ci sono ristorantini in centro e nella Palmeraie. Qui si viene per riposare, per stare tranquilli, per visitare un mondo diverso dal solito occidente, qui si viene in Paradiso. Se cercate i grandi resort per fare baldoria, per abbuffarvi al buffet, per avere gli animatori che vi devono animare altrimenti siete depressi, non venite qui, andate a Palma di Maiorca, Sharm el Sheik o a Djerba. Il Ksar Elkabbaba si trova a due km circa dal centro di Skoura, nella Palmeraie, grazioso posto con le casette di fango, la vegetazione di olivi e palme, la gente semplice, buona, cordiale e serena. La palmeraie è un'esperienza bellissima che noi abbiamo fatto da soli senza guida. Incamminandoci fuori dall'hotel, a circa 500 metri, inizia una vegetazione di palme, olivi, melograni e tante altre splendide piante. La strada bianca è attraversata ogni tanto soprattutto da gente in motorino o in bicicletta, a piedi e qualche veicolo. Imboccata la palmeraie inizierete a vedere le canalizzazioni per l'irrigazione dell'acqua, le donne che lavano i panni nel canale, i vecchietti al bar, i negozietti di alimentari, uno che vende mobili di legno esposti sulla strada, donne e bambini che vi salutano incuriositi, sorridenti e senza invadenza. Noi siamo stati invitati da una donna a visitare la loro casa, la più bella visita del Marocco, volevamo lasciargli una piccola mancia ma non hanno voluto nulla. Questo è l'esterno, raccontato in parte, perchè bisogna andarci per vedere, capire, sentire. Passiamo alla parte interna dell'hotel, bellissimo, affascinante, rilassante, familiare. C'è una vegetazione, un giardino, delle piante che non riesco a descrivere con le parole per la loro bellezza. Lo staff è ottimo, preparato e molto disponibile, non ci sono orari, potete chiedere quello che volete a qualsiasi ora. Appena arrivati, ci hanno rifocillati con un buon tè, arachidi e mandorle. Abbiamo fatto subito una Jacuzzi nella SPA, l'hanno dovuta preparare prima, l'abbiamo fatta praticamente alle 22:30 di sera. Ogni sera ci chiedevano a che ora volevamo fare colazione la mattina, a che ora la cena, insomma stavano alle nostre esigenze, gli dicevamo cosa volevamo a cena: "un Tajine di carne, di verdure, un cus cus", la stessa cosa si può fare con il pranzo ma noi non pranzavamo perchè uscivamo sempre. Le cuoche sono speciali, brave, si mangia in modo eccellente, non è caro. La SPA è a pagamento, un Hamman 100 Diramh, una Jacuzzi 150 Diramh, un massaggio alla schiena 100 Diramh, tutto il corpo 300 Diramh. Brava la massaggiatrice Giulia. Simpatici, cordiali e premurosi i ragazzi, Akim, Talall, Farida, Ambiente molto familiare. L'hotel è silenzioso, è tutto è stato disegnato ed arredato con grazia, armonicamente, non c'è un vaso, un tavolino, un colore che stoni, ovunque volgiate lo sguardo avete qualcosa da ammirare. Un oasi di pace, anche con la famiglia, Mio figlio di 9 anni si è divertito molto, il personale lo coinvolgeva e lo coccolava, giocando anche con lui. Per raggiungere il centro di Skoura potete fare una passeggiatina di 2 km circa, o farvi venire a prendere da un taxi, li potete prendere un grand-taxi che va a Ouarzazate, per andarci abbiamo speso 15 Diramh a testa insieme ad altre tre splendide donne che erano già sul taxi in attesa di partire. Consiglio vivamente questo Hotel. Non saprei indicare delle cose negative. C'è la cassaforte in camera, anche se credo che non serva, comunque c'è. Noi per fortuna non avevamo la Tv in camera, c'è ne è una in una sala comune se vi interessa. Il Wi-Fi...

I booked a 5-star trip via an agency, so I was expecting a much higher level of quality and service. The grounds are pretty, but our room smelled musty/moldy, the plumbing under the bathroom sink leaked so there was always water on the floor, there were several nails sticking out of the wood directly by the door handle and they have THE most uncomfortable beds known to mankind. The manager seemed extremely upset that we felt the mattress was uncomfortable and wanted to defend them to us. My husband wasn’t feeling well during our stay and they made a big deal several times of saying it wasn’t their food that made him ill (we never indicated their food had made him ill as he wasn’t feeling well prior to our arrival). Additionally, it felt like our room wasn’t fully stocked. There were mugs but no coffee maker, we were given one hand towel for two people (it seemed like a big deal to get another when I asked for it) The food in the restaurant was sad. We do have special dietary requirements but we were given stale bread with jam for breakfast our first morning.
