Kicking around the bucket list, my daughters friend recommended Omar for our impending trip to Morocco. After reaching out to him and being patience with regard to time differences and trying to design a grand vacation, Omar came up with a perfect ten day itinerary. He factored in our wishlists, amount of time and monetary needs. We got to see vibrant cities, mosques, parks, medinas, country sides, museums, animals, shops, and artisans. Each evening we stayed in clean, warm, and beautifully designed environments. Our overnight in the desert, after a camel ride to the camp, was breathtaking. The tents, food, music and camaraderie within the group were so very special. I don’t think I will ever forget the feel of the sand, cool and silky. Everywhere the food was delicious, flavored with local spices. A driver was provided (a must). Mohammad was a wonderfully pleasant, young man, who took good care of us. We came to enjoy his company, stories and infectious laugh. We drove from Casa Blanca, south, east, north and back west, making a giant loop, stopping along the way. Upon meeting Omar, in Merzouga, we were greeted by a gentle giant of sorts. A tall, lean, and soft spoken man, Omar was bright, knowledgeable, and warm. He was well respected by colleagues and locals. “Tranquil” was his favorite word for us! And we did. This trip pushed me slightly out of my comfort zone, only to realize my comfort zone is much larger now (as I find with much travel). The world truly is full of beautiful people, amazing sites and natural wonders. I highly recommend this...
Read moreHaving spent two days in Merzouga shopping around for the right Sahara tour, I would strongly recommend that all people planning on going to the Sahara to go to Les Portes du Desert.
Unlike the other camps, Les Portes du Desert is remote from all other bivouacs, meaning our stay was much more peaceful than that of other providers. The camp’s location is also much deeper into the desert, giving us a much more immersive Sahara experience.
Les Portes du Desert also offered us the chance to hear traditional Berber music and to drink tea with the local nomads, which were both fascinating. On arriving at the camp, we rode camels while watching the sunset before eating a wonderful 4-course meal under the stars.
Above all, the service from our hosts, Yusuf and Mohammed was superb. Unlike other Sahara experiences, Yusuf both sold us and took us on the tour. This is not the case for other Sahara operators, many of whom flood Merzouga with tour sellers who take commission to sell Sahara experiences to people whom they never see again. Yusuf drove us to our location deep into the desert, and even promised our money back if we did not enjoy the trip. Our camp host Mohammed was also excellent, providing attentive service over dinner followed by a traditional Moroccan drum lesson around the campfire to end a perfect...
Read moreBeautiful Moroccan-style decorated hotel with a lovely clean swimming pool. The staff is very friendly and helpful.||View of the Erg Chebbi Dunes. We have camped here. The palms and bushes are still small, but the toilets and showers were one of the best we had in Morocco.||Through the hotel we also had organisted a bivouac in the sand dunes. The reservation via the internet didn't went well, but the manager solved it perfectly and even gave us a upgraded.||At 17:00 we left the hotel for a 1:30 ride to the bivouac at the foot of one of the highest dunes. The bivouac was perfect, even with a bathroom with shower and toilet. The food and the music were also fantastic. The sunset was beautiful and we had a glorious sunrise next morning. My son went even sandboarding here. The price for the whole bivouac at 350 dham / adult and 300 dham / child was very convenient.||All good value for money. This was the second time in this hotel and the bivouac tour and we will...
