In all the various accommodation options I've stayed in globally across nearly 30 years of travels, this is the worst of them all. ||||1. The location is truly awful. To get to the place - you drive through a rubbish dump. A dusty, unformed road that winds its way through piles of hard rubbish. That - if a taxi actually agrees to take you there - as the address is on an unnamed road. Behind the walls of the venue - yes there is a lovely pool and a pretty garden. That's the only charm. ||2. The room I was assigned had what could be called clean sheets, but stained pillow cases. Not pleasant. The room was dark. ||3. The hot water taps are reversed between the bathroom sink and the shower. It is a hand shower only, so don't expect shampooing your hair to be an easy experience. There was no hair dryer supplied, but at least it appeared when asked for.||4. There was soap supplied, but it was well used and there was some one else's pubic hair on it. On a positive note, there was a small dispenser of shampoo.||5. I enquired if there was a washing machine we could use - and was waved off as they didn't have one, and it was 1.5km "that way". (yes, across the dump). Others in my group discovered there was a washing machine but were told they couldn't use it - even for a fee; and that they would need to go right into the city to get to a laundry.||6. What started as a gorgeous warm welcome, with pretty donkey's, a friendly dog, chooks, log fire and a gorgeous pool disintegrated into a demonstration of the most awful, unprofessional service. These are blunt words, but it's the truth.||7. Breakfast on day 1 was OK, but on Day 2 - didn't appear despite an agreed time of 07:30. There was NOTHING other than coffee and tea. The host - Geraladine / Grendadine disappeared from the complex, leaving us to exit without a farewell.||8. Wifi was a complete joke. The accommodation host released the password, then each night the service was turned off. Then, it would reappear, only to change the router name and password. Petty and just plain strange.||9. The host had no sense of security - advising us that we were the only ones in the complex and it would be OK to leave the keys in our door - and that our key was the ONLY one that would open the door! In reality, there were other people in the complex - none of which we actually knew who was who - we weren't sure they were her family members, guests or just hangers on, so we felt completely at risk for our gear. In reality, there was more than one key for the room - because some of the towels were replaced on the second day (hooray). Our key which we handed in at her request, was left in the door swinging freely for anyone in the complex to access our room whilst we were out. ||11. The plants in the courtyard were really unsuitable for children to be anywhere near them - pricky nasty cactus, and worst of all - Angels Trumpet (Brugmansia x candida) of which ALL parts of the plant are toxic. Symptoms may include intense thirst, difficulty with speech and swallowing, vomiting and diarrhoea, fever, confusion, hallucinations, delirium, dilated pupils, seizures and coma. Why on earth it would be chosen as a decorative plant near the rooms beats me. The perfume can cause respiratory irritation, headaches, nausea, and light-headedness. Eye contact with the sap may cause dilated pupils and temporary blindness.||10. The owners request for us to fill in passport registration forms was blunt, and lacked any courtesy. Communication skills are poor. ||11. And finally, on the matter of hygiene - that pretty cat that sits on the chairs in the afternoon sun... I was HORRIFIED to see the owner spread dry cat biscuits onto the kitchen bench, and for the cat to jump onto the bench and eat straight off the surface. YES, the FOOD PREPARATION surface. Need I say more? ||||So, would I recommend this place??? NO, NO, and NO. Yes, its a pretty pool, and yes those professionally taken pictures do look tempting, but in reality, once you see the place, in the context of its location, and the lack of genuine ability in the host to provide basic hospitality services.......
Read moreWhat an absolute dream of a place that ended up being a bit of a lifesaver for my sister and I.|Having sustained rather serious accident on a camel trip ( but that's another story) my sister was not able to fly home as scheduled. We've been staying in a Riad but when she came out of hospital this proved impractical. Therefore we looked around for something just outside the old Medina of Marrakesh close to the international clinic where she's just been released from. We came across Le Bled de Gre by chance, and after a rather rough taxi ride through some somewhat dodgy areas we arrived at this total oasis. The staff and owners could not have been more accommodating and flexible as we did not know when my sister would be fit to fly. They did everything to enable us to stay extra days and they even sent out a member of staff to buy a blood oxygen monitor so that we could keep an eye on my sisters recovery. The rooms are basic but comfy and the whole field of the place was more like an AgroTurismo of the type that you can find all over Italy.|Le Bled is green and lush with various animals and birds roaming around at will.|This includes donkeys, peacocks, turkeys chickens, three beautiful Golden Retrievers, cats, tortoises, chickens, bat, and frogs!|Another highlight is the food stop. A decent breakfast is included in the room price and will easily keep you going until early dinner. They would light to barbecue just to cook your burger and nothing is too much trouble.|Le Bled may not be everyone's Moroccan cup of tea but it's certainly mine. I steer clear of resorts especially so-called five star resorts and hate large hotels preferring to stay in family run businesses where possible. This definitely ticked all my boxes and I will be returning as soon as I can.|Just bear in mind that when you're in a taxi from Marrakesh, which will take you past the airport and will cost around 70 MAD. you will think that the driver has gone mad. Just bear with him and if you get lost call and they will come...
