There were also pigs right outside my window that were being prepped and moved for slaughter. If you have ever heard a frightened pig screaming, it's a sound you won't soon forget. If I heard the same sound in N. America I'd likely call the police.||||The shower was acceptably warm. Refrigerator did not work. Tea was cold and old. Linens were old and word. And the place was not that inexpensive.||||I'd rather stay in the local guesthouse with no hot water and only 10 hours of electricity. At least there the owners would be happy to have a guest.||||BTW, Magwe and its surroundings are well worth a visit. There are some lovely pagodas in Magwe itself and a visit to Minbu to Shwe Set Taw is a must. Foreign faces are few and far between in these parts of MM, and the locals will welcome you in typical fashion.||||And there is not more beautiful a pagoda sunset than that which you will witness over the Irrawaddy. ||||Oh, and one last tip: If you like to cook, Magwe is famous for ironwork, specifically kitcen implements. Functional and affordable place with spacious rooms and friendly staff. But the rooms and facilities are showing their age and the hotel feels like an old place that has seen better days years ago.
