But still, there are SOME options. Exercise them.||||When we arrived at the hotel, the greeting was nonexistent. Typically in a small establishment in this country a small army of people will greet an arriving vehicle with a cold drink, a wet towel for a quick clean-up, etc. We got none of that. In fact, the staff seemed put off that we were disturbing their viewing of a Premier League replay on television.||||Rooms were dark and dirty and smelled musty. There were also pigs right outside my window that were being prepped and moved for slaughter. If you have ever heard a frightened pig screaming, it's a sound you won't soon forget. If I heard the same sound in N. America I'd likely call the police.||||The shower was acceptably warm. Refrigerator did not work. Tea was cold and old. Linens were old and word. And the place was not that inexpensive.||||I'd rather stay in the local guesthouse with no hot water and only 10 hours of electricity. At least there the owners would be happy to have a guest.||||BTW, Magwe and its surroundings are well worth a visit. There are some lovely pagodas in Magwe itself and a visit to Minbu to Shwe Set Taw is a must. Foreign faces are few and far between in these parts of MM, and the locals will welcome you in typical fashion.||||And there is not more beautiful a pagoda sunset than that which you will witness over the Irrawaddy. ||||Oh, and one last tip: If you like to cook, Magwe is famous for ironwork, specifically kitcen implements.
