I had a really fantastic stay at Shwe Htee Mandalay - it's a really nice, very clean, welcoming hotel that is great value despite being in a pretty upmarket part of the city.||I thought the staff were really lovely and friendly, very attentive too. The food was really good - we had both breakfast and room service, it was always tasty, fresh and had a good variety of dishes too. The deep-fried pork ribs and Sichuan pork were my personal favourites. We stayed for a week and everyday breakfast was an interesting combination of Burmese and Chinese food, and on the Sunday we were there they made a really good Indian breakfast.||The room was spacious, bigger than I expected and exceptionally clean. Everything in the room seemed to be made of hard wood, with the exception of the fridge/freezer, which was massive for a hotel room by British standards. They had some pretty interesting human-scale statues (I'm assuming hand-carved) downstairs in the lobby too, you can tell they've put a lot of love into the place.||It was very hot while we were in Mandalay, so it was a great comfort to have 24h aircon. I slept like a baby, which is quite rare for me in hotels. It was a very homey, comfortable room and the bed was very comfortable too. ||Shwe Htee Mandalay was great value, very reasonable, including room service. Overall the hotel was a great find and I'd highly recommend it to anyone...
Read moreI stayed here for one night in October 2018 and was immediately impressed by the size of the room and furnishings (large closet, safe, fridge, lots and lots of seating, desk, etc.). The hotel is very close to the Orthopaedic Hospital. The staff are very sweet and helpful, though english improvement would help. I recommend not staying on the 7th floor (I was in 702) because it is close to the rooftop water pump which is very loud; it sounds like someone drilling constantly into brick. When I asked about it at 8pm the staff offered to let me change my room, but I was too tired and unpacked already, and thought I could drown it out with the bathroom fan and A/C, but I was wrong. My non-smoking room also seemed to let second-hand smoke in from another room. I think if I had been in a different room, my experience would have been much more positive. Summary: by all means stay here, but avoid...
