It’s located on the same block as a branch of the Kiss Me restaurant (English menu) and the room was reasonably clean by local standards. There was one guy who worked at the front desk who spoke good English who took me by car to the Irrawaddy Confluence and to a mountain with a nice view where many Kachin people are buried. ||||He did overcharge me for the trip (I did not negotiate and I don’t know what one is “supposed” to pay to go there) BUT he also helped me book a train ticket to Hopin (Indawgyi Lake) as they are only sold at certain times a day in advance with the schedules etc all written in Burmese and having been changed from what guidebooks / seat61 say. If you are on a tight budget and must see the confluence, ask around and check on the Internet as to what you are “supposed” to pay.||||The Internet generally worked ok BUT generally just in the lobby (mosquitoes are present there) and there were occasional power interruptions that would interrupt it, but they did not last very long.||||Breakfast was a couple of options and I could not understand what they were saying to me, but I am not too picky and ended up with fried rice. Toast, coffee/tea and fruit were also available and was help yourself. ||||The only annoyance is having to pay in cash and that you need to make sure you pay them with crisp clean new bills as it’s hard for them to accept/exchange anything that’s not crisp, clean and new.||||Oh another note/warning for any budding SJW out there: There are - let’s just say some rather young looking people working at this hotel and its probably the same at every hotel….. If this sort of thing bothers you, DON’T go to Myitkyina as some of the staff at the Kiss Me restaurant and elsewhere…. looked...
Read moreWe have been to Myitkyina many times over the years and thus knew what to expect. Hotel United is a relatively new addition to the growing hotel market in this backwater town. At it's current price level, it appears to be the finest choice by far. The rooms are clean and air conditioned. While the staff avoids cleaning them regularly or changing your sheets (hand washed on the roof), they will happily do so if hinted. The breakfast is basic but adequate and the waiters try their hardest to meet requests. The free wifi, while very unreliable except in the early hours of the morning and late at night is such in the whole town and thus hardly a fault of the hotel. Our only critique would be the laundry service which was expensive by local standards and returned our clothes smelling heavily of mildew. Remember to check out your room before checking in. The ones on the far side of the hotel are much...
Read moreMyitkyina's green and leafy streets are agreeable with its old architecture and absence of (Asia’s new plague) high-rise-in-Chinese-bling-bling-style. Stroll around and have a chat with the market sellers. I needed a hotel for work and stayed here. Good room (take the one on the side-street side so that you have daylight (rooms with even numbers, I think). Wifi a bit weak in the room. Good hot water and bar. Eatery just across the road with classical Burmese curries (India’s influence) for a couple of eurocents. 15 minutes to...
