We stayed at the Myanmar Han for 3 days whilst visiting Bagan. The hotel is a little out of the Bagan towns, and around 5 minutes drive from the bus station. When arriving, ensure you don't get over charged for a taxi. We paid 10,000 kyat which is way more than average, and then the taxi driver tried to charge 12,000 when we arrived. Hotel to bus station is listed at 3,000 kyat. ||The hotel is in good condition, and the rooms are clean and spacious. Drinking water is provided in a large barrel which we decanted into bottles and put into the fridge when needed.||On our first nights stay, the air conditioner didn't work properly, but as the hotel was full we were given a portable unit to use. Whilst this didn't fully cool the room down it did offer some relief from the heat, and the hotel moved us to a different room the next day. The beds are comfortable, and further pillows are available which we asked requested. The bathroom is clean with toiletries to use, with a shower area- watch the shower curtain as this wasnt quite long enough in the first room and water went everywhere.||The restaurant is located at the top of the hotel, and is mostly outdoor with mosquito netting all around. This can be slightly warm at night, but is still pleasant to sit in. The food is good, with a host of local and western options which we ate each evening. Unfortunately we wanted to try a main and a couple of the desserts which were never available, so this couldn't happen. The food, however doesn't ever seem to come out together which is something the hotel may need to work on. Sometimes one of us would have nearly finished eating before the other had even gotten their meal.|Breakfast is a variety of rice, noodles, spring rolls, eggs and toast. The kitchen did make us pancakes a couple of times which were good. The downside here was that the food never seemed particularly fresh, and once when we asked for fresh fried eggs, but these also came out cold which was strange. ||The pool area was usually quiet, with a small bar for drinks. You can also order the same food as in the restaurant here, and again this seems to come out at different times. The pool itself isn't cooled, but still relatively refreshing. It does seem to have a sheen to it, however we did see the staff putting chemicals in and regularly cleaning with a net etc. |The other guests in the hotel were mainly Chinese tourists who arrive on large tour buses, and in general seem to be very loud, especially in the early morning! Signs could be introduced to ask for some respect to other guests. ||The local area doesn't really have anything there- across the road are a couple of local restaurants, however nobody spoke any English and there were a LOT of flies. The family that owned it brought out fans and fanned the flies away for the entire time we were there! Even when I said I'd do it myself, they insisted. Other than that, anything else could be catered for by the hotel, or alternatively they put on shuttle buses into Nyaung-U a few times each day. |They also have electric bikes to rent, so you can explore the temples etc on your own. We hired a local horse and cart, which was a great way to experience the temples with a local guide, and the horse was very well cared for.||One word of warning- all visitors to Bagan are meant to pay a 25,000 kyat tourism fee when they enter the city which is policed by checkpoints. For some reason however we weren't stopped at the check in the taxi from the bus station, and then didnt have to show anything around the temples, so didn't actually end up being asked to pay. The only time we saw a checkpoint was at a hill we were going to head up for sunset, but by this point it had begun to rain, so were lucky there!||Recommended hotel and could go from good to great with just a few...
Read moreThe jury is still out on this one...as the title implies.|We stayed for 5 nights in total.||Cons:|Full of noisy noisy Chinese (by the bus load)|Woken by the above & staff every morning...who have no consideration to anyone who may wish for a slight sleep in after 6am!!! Suggestion to the hotel to put signs up reminding guests to be considerate to others.|Breakfast was very poor and chaotic..dirty food/pot strewn tables, the food that was there, was left uncovered, no plates, cups...again it seemed that the Chinese descended on mass on the dining area caused absolute carnage and the staff couldn’t cope. |The only edible thing for westerners was bread and fried eggs...which for us was adequate but it is nice to have a choice. |Only two very small uncomfortable wooden sun beds...we booked the hotel because of the pool but it was impossible to relax around it...such a shame.|Laundry ruined several of my tops by the ironing. |Reception staff couldn’t speak much English...on the whole helpful but one girl was very rude when we asked for assistance in rearranging a flight. ||Pros: |Beautiful setting |Free Shuttle bus into the town at set times||It is such a shame as this could be a great hotel with a few...
Read moref you are looking to escape your day at the temples and the main tourist area Myanmar Han is a good hotel. This hotel is not perfect through a western lens, but by Myanmar standards, it is a great find for a very fair price. For revenue optimisation, US dollar is the currency of choice on property. F&B charges are a little higher than in the main tourist area, all things considered with the room rate being a total steal and I did not mind paying a premium. I appreciated the pool area, oversized rooms, breakfast, laundry service and hot water. JJ Express bus services dropped me off and picked me up at the hotel. This saved me from the need to navigate touts. I arrived around 5 a.m at the hotel and the hotel staff were very kind and offered me an early check-in. Priceless and much appreciated. I rented an e-bike (motorised scooter) for most of my stay as this provided me with the flexibility to head into town and to the temples on demand. The hotel provides a shuttle to Nyang-U a couple of times a day. The staff are great and are empowered to make every effort for a great stay. Aung at the bar...
