We live in Myanmar since 2015 and have been coming with our two daughters, now 6 and 9 yrs old, to Ngapali many times. This time we decided to not stay in a hotel at the main beach but at Lalay Lodge, which is located at the edge of a fishing village on a peninsula, about 40 min away by boat from the Ngapali jetty. It was the best stay we had in many years, simply because we wanted to get away from the crowds and the secluded location of the Lodge at a long beach was therefore perfect. The beach actually consists of two sections, one where you can search and find beautiful sea shells and one with a long sandy soft slope into the water that was perfect for swimming. We had a family room at the Lodge (one double and two single beds) which many other hotels we contacted earlier could not provide. Our room was very spacious and the bathroom was of highest international standard. The Lodge is nicely designed and with only nine rooms a perfect retreat for a relaxing stay. The staff is super-friendly and can advise on the best snorkel spots and hikes. The lunch and dinner menu consisted of traditional Rakhine cuisine and the food was always fresh and very tasty. The lodge runs on solar and has applied sustainable principles consistently. In essence: we can't wait to get back for our next holiday and highly...
Read moreYou HAVE to stay! I have been to the area before a couple times and stayed at the best resorts - however this small intimate lodge takes one back to the golden age of travel. Lalay’s 5* service with heart, idyllic local (taking their tuktuk and local boat to get to is magic), delicious local cuisine (soups and seafood extraordinary), beach walks, breathtaking views, nature, and adventures were extraordinary. It was honestly the most peaceful place - stresses of the world melted away completely in this little paradise and the local people who take care of you are beyond gracious and have smiles I will never forget. Completely sustainable and eco friendly - I have never stayed at a ecolodge with better solar - or wifi!! The design is simple but gorg and everything it’s made of came from the area too! So much to discover, the lodge does so much for the community I cannot...
Read moreWe visited LaLay lodge in the middle of May and loved it from start to end. Stunning view, lots of nice little day trips. Kayak and snorkeling was our favorite, along with the discovery of hidden beaches. The lodge in itself is beautiful and the spot amazing, staff very attentive and friendly, the food was incredible with innovative and varied dishes from the local seasonal variety of fish and vegetables. The approach to taken by the lodge to community tourism with attention paid to both the community and ecological impact is well thought through, and we wish all lodge owners was as dedicated to giving back to communities what tourism takes. We will be eager to come back and would highly recommend this site to anyone who looks for a blissful break with a direct view into Myanmar community...
