Hotel Sidney — Hotel in Yangon

I did my mandatory 21 days quarantine in this hotel. It was just my bad luck to be sent to this hotel out of much better hotels listed (since we don’t have a chance to choose which hotel we will stay even though we are paying really overpriced rates). I’ll point out only TWO main essential matters to be short. WiFi and Food, most important things for those doing quarantine for 3 weeks. First, WiFi. For someone who’s gonna be staying just inside a room for 21 days would have expected a good WiFi in the room! I talked with more than 3 staffs regarding with their WiFi which is not working at all since from the day ONE I arrived. After two weeks staying there, and I learned mysteriously it’s just my room for whatsoever reason (that’s what I got told). So I ended up using my own mobile for the whole 22 days, what a great hotel! Second, Food. My friend who was staying in another hotel told me that it was optional to take the meals from hotel or not. However, I was told here that it’s mandatory. Since I have an allergy to all kind of fishes, I told them not to send those. So they kept sending me Chicken and Pork Curry which were cooked in the exact same way for every lunch and dinner for straight 4 days. I won’t be complaining if they at least change the cooking style, even someone not from culinary backgrounds knows at least 5-6 different ways. So I asked them to give me just salad (okay if not even meat) and veggie for my meals. Since from that days, all they were sending me was mostly salad and rice. I was so tired of complaining after they sent me 3 days straight same salad. It’s quite funny that they wanted to make revenue from the meals they provided thus they told us it’s a must to take but they are not willing to listen or no consideration for the guests staying in their hotel. I could go on but im not going to waste any more time. I have honestly never been anywhere that much no consideration and empathy for the guests (quarantine has already made me stressed enough). If you are not majorly bothered by the WiFi and service but just want a place to lay down and all, then this is the place for you. However, if you care about cleanliness, great service, staying experience worthy for your spent pennies, DO NOT STAY. And before you ask yourself, “can it really be that bad?” Trust me, yes it can ! Plus, it is very funny of them to charge me extra 4% of total for using the local MPU card. It’s more than enough after I paid 875k MMK for the room with terrible foods and wifi, then 35k extra for the reason only...

Brought a group of 19 Brits to Yangon for a performance at Myanmar Conference Centre, stayed at Hotel Sidney for 2 nights. The building was designed and built by the current owner, and it's great! The staff are outstanding, great rates, excellent service across the board. Food is largely SE Asian, but very tasty and included plenty of vegetarian options. Highly recommend going up to the 5th floor for the bar which has an open roof terrace overlooking forest with a temple's golden roof visible. Massages in the spa utterly out of the world. They also sell souvenirs at the same prices as the market. One of our party had her birthday, and the management arranged an amazing cake after 9pm (going out for it in the pouring rain!) - complete with candles and her name on the icing. Nth particular to complain, all facilities are conveniently ok .. Rooms are clean, housekeeping is perfect, breakfast buffet is just ok, wifi is slow though. I personally feel nuisance hearing sound of floor emerged when wearing shoes. It has a safe parking place (if you need one). Transportation would be difficult for business traveler since it's considerably far from downtown points but as for a visitor who would like to spend time peacefully, the location is quite undisturbed and quite. But for such facilities and class, the price is fairly over than it should be. Thus I would frankly try other options than...
