Sophia Dale Base Camp — Hotel in Erongo Region

Swakopmund and the campsite were only intended to be a pit-stop for one night to reduce the daily distances. Instead, we experienced a real surprise at the Sophia Dale Base Camp! The campsites are nicely set up, a little secluded, so that you have your own area. Each site is equipped with light and plugs, fast wifi is available at the reception for free. Most importantly, the owners made us feel welcome right away! They were incredibly kind and willing to help us out with questions or tips regarding our trip. The campsite's restaurant served an excellent fish platter, one of the best I've ever had! Although the camp is a little outside of Swakop and the highway can be heard in the distance, we didn't feel disturbed by it at all due to the campsite's set-up. We were really surprised by the camp and would highly recommend it to anyone! By far the best value for money of all campsites during our trip. Thanks to Manfred and his wife...

Camped there for 1 night on our way up north.|The site allocated to us, unfortunately had no shade.|The ablusions were clean, but unfortunately no hot water. Upon mentioning this to the owner, he said that they have a water pressure problem that "could" cause this.||No card facilities, so you need to pay cash, even in the restaurant.|Had dinner in their restaurant - lovely salad, Currywurst and Pork Schnitzel very tasty.|Unfortunately, the $85 corkage charge (the highest I have ever paid anywhere), spoiled the evening.||Loved the resident dog - Leika||Would I return- no, due to the corkage charge ripoff and the cold...

Living in a complex, but love to braai in the outdoors...we took a chance to ask Sophia Dale if we can come for a late afternoon braai. We were SO surprised, having electricity, WARM water for dishes, and 1st prize a clean WARM shower after the 8 & 3yr old played in the sand....that is what they like best. We just sat and enjoyed while the children roamed freely and played & explored all the quaint little nooks and crannies. It is very 'Africa', so relaxing and wonderful....
