If you want to see what a failed state is, then it is the right place. Everything is runned down and not looked after. It must have been build 30 years ago and since then hardly anything was done. If you think that this is supposed to be the visit card of Namibia, rather sad. All staff rude and not interested beside watching tik tok on their cellphones. The best part is when I went to the pissoir and felt my feets getting wet only to see that my urine was coming out below. Luckily the water hole in halali is very nice. Let me not start on the condition of the road in Etosha... Anyway I recommend staying outside the state run camps in etosha and drive in during the day. Shame on you Namibia to offer such a bad side of this otherwise beautiful country.

Halali Camp is fine as a place to sleep between game drives. However as a camp it is not great. Cement and rocky dirt is all you get. All the good I can say for the bathrooms is that they are stocked with tissue. There is no grass, hardly any shade and the pool area is a sunbaked cement square with not enough seating. The pool itself may look blue and clean but there is a 10cm layer of algae/fungus in the deep end and also coating all the sides. Not sure how hard it could be to keep it clean but it was definitely not a great option to relieve the heat. Restaurant is overpriced with few options. Again fine as a place to sleep but otherwise wouldn't recommend for spending any time there.

Let me start by saying we were camping here so I can’t speak to the rooms. There were a ton of toilet blocks with warm showers. The pool was large and decent. There is a waterhole with many seats around it but we had no luck seeing animals there but it is wet season. I think $23/person to camp is a bit absurd for the campsite but it is in Etosha so obviously you will pay a premium. My main issue was the restaurant/bar shutting at 8:32pm without any warning to people having some beers on the patio. No problem to shut early but just let your patrons know.

This camp is a joke. We have been camping in Namibia for the past 2 weeks and this is by far the worst camp we did. There are much better camps for the same price, Halali camp is SO EXPENSIVE for what it really is. Where exactly does the money go ? Well I can tell you it does NOT go in the maintenance of the camp or the park.

The bathrooms ? Only one of the two soap dispensers work, different sinks aren’t fixed, no lockers on half of the doors, no light in the toilet at night time…

The staff ? So disrespectful… When we went to the reception to check-in, no welcome, no smile, no friendly look, just a side eye, like if we came from a different planet, when we asked questions about the camp. The next morning not even a hello from the cook who just screamed to me and my sister asking if we wanted to eat eggs.

During the day, we can’t even peacefully search for animals while driving because we have to check every two minutes if one of our tyre is flat. The quality of the roads is such a pity. Please fix the roads with the money we pay with for sleeping here before spending it on anything BUT renovation.

The only good point of this camp is the waterhole. Last night we saw rhinos and it was an incredible experience. But again the benches we were sitting on weren’t even properly fixed. What a shame… this park deserves so much more than filthy expensive camps.

To sum up, this campsite is falling apart. Don’t bother going there until it’s fully renovated and entertained.

Like we say in France : On s’est...

I booked the Bush Chalet for over $3000 for one night without expectations cause even our travel guide book said better have no one. The chalet needs some attention but where all around good. Aircon works very well, sink is blocked, mozzy net in good condition. We had a long journey and where quiet exhausted when entered the gate one hour before sunset. When we arrived at Halali there was no customer service at all. Very unfriendly lady behind the reception barking at me that the floor is wet and that I have to wait until it’s dry before entering. No welcome, no empathy at all just telling me 5 times that we are very late. The next day we were supposed to pay an over $1200 fee for being too late and we were not supposed to drive during sunset. 🤦🏼‍♀️WHAT ELSE AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?????? When I discussed about the absurd price list one man asked me how much I would be willing to pay. Not a single penny!

Long story short - JUST GIVE YOUR MONEY TO PEOPLE WHO UNDERSTAND CUSTOMER SERVICE, TRULY VALUE YOU AS A GUEST AND ARE FRIENDLY. I would definitely not recommend this place and I would also not book a night here again. I would just listen to the other reviews and come back during the day and leave the park for the night.

One star for the very few friendly people (gate and waiter) and the good located waterhole ( and because I can not give zero!) VERY...

Halali….or Hell-ali?

So we stayed in a double room for a night. Like all the camps in Etosha, it’s very clean but VERY basic. Think Route 66 Motel vibes. But exactly what we needed. It had freezing Air Conditioning and a running fridge. You really can’t ask for much more in the middle of Etosha.

The only thing I would say, as many people have expressed, is how bad the food is.

The food. Is. So. So. Poor. Borderline disgusting.

If you can, I would highly recommend bringing your own meals for this campsite. The food is just so bad and overpriced that I would have been happy out with a baguette and some cheese instead. Okajuejo and Namutoni had better meals.

The reception staff were lovely but the restaurant staff really don’t care a whole lot.

Also, the guy working at the petrol station was very helpful. We ran into a punctured type issue and did everything he could to help us. A legend.

But seriously, my thoughts and prayers are with you if you have to have dinner here.

Also avoid the pool. It was greener...
