I found this nice place just by chance, surfing through Google Earth in search of a place to overnight on my way from the Quiver Tree Forest to Windhoek.||And I am glad I found Jansen Kalahari Guest Farm. ||Louise, the farm owner, was very friendly and helpful during my email exchanges with her.||Instead of just one night, I finally decided to stay for two and enjoy the whole day on the farm, just walking around, drinking coffee on a red dune, watching the animals roaming around - a wonderful experience, and I am happy I could stay at least for two nights. If time permitted, I would have stayed for longer. ||The hosties were very hospitable, and the atmosphere was great - the right place to stay if one wants to inhale some sense of the Kalahari desert in a safe but authentic environment. ||I was driving a car, and used their camping facilities as I spent nights in my tent. The camping grounds have everything needed for a convenient stay - a shower, a toilet, a barbecue place, a cooking place with a wash sink, and electricity sockets to charge your electronic devices. ||The restaurant and a bar were nice, with convenient furniture and an inspiring selection of cold beer and house wines:)||There is also a pool, but I did not use it. Although I saw people enjoying it nicely.||The only minor issue I had was with the power sockets, which are of a local Type D standard (and I failed to bring an adaptor), so I had to ask Victoria, a nice lady at the reception, for the adaptor to fit my Type C plug. I would recommend bringing your adaptor to avoid inconvenience. Although, of course, I would appreciate it if the hosties would also install a few sockets with Type C in future, if possible.|I saw that most of the accommodation facilities in Namibia already have installed such sockets at their premises since this type seems to be widely used by tourists.||Oh, I should also mention the Sundowners safari trip, which I joined in the evening - the guide, Moses, was knowledgeable about the things we saw - animals, plants, landscapes, etc., and could tell a lot about it to make our immersion into Kalahari full. The safari was concluded with an inviting table, quickly set up on a dune by the guide, with snacks and drinks consumed while watching the sun set, and the surrounding beauty of the Kalahari Desert.||I would come again for sure. With the family. And for a...
Read moreRip off at Jansen Kalahari Guest Farm: We took over our 4x4 with rooftent ind Windhoek. All campsites were fully booked and we did not manage to reach Red Dune Camp before darkness. We called up Jansen and were asked to text. We did so with no feedback. So we tried our luck and drove there at 18 o‘clock: Very warm welcome.. until we explained not having a reservation: Everthing fully booked. We asked for a save place to stay. Only option: Luxury room for 2 persons and a total of NAD 3200 incl. food, althought we were 2 adults and a child. After realizing our plight, the next offer was 4200 NAD for two in the room and one sleeps in the roof tent … we refused and buggered off…
I do not question the price… I complain, because wantet to take advantage of our situation being in a corner. Within the 5 Minutes the price went up another 1000 realizing our situation. And we newer got a feedback on our text written at 1533. and even more the text you were mentioning was not written by us. Your lodge looks nice, full is full, but how Walk-in Guests were treated was...
Read moreWe only stayed one night, but would’ve loved to stay longer or come back in the future. The farm is beautiful, the facilities are taken care of with love, and the whole place is wonderfully peaceful.
It’s a family-run business, and Hentie and Louise were very welcoming, friendly hosts who even helped us get our fridge running again.
We had also booked the sundowner drive, but unfortunately, we arrived too late. It was no problem at all to change it to a sunrise drive through the dunes instead upon arrival. Highly recommended! You get to see wildlife like giraffes, zebras, and more from the back of an open pickup truck, plus watch the sun rise behind the red dunes, perfect for some photo opportunities.
Not to forget, the campsites were equipped with everything you need: a sink with drinkable water, a BBQ place, a trash can, a power outlet, and a light source. They are also nice and secluded, with a private toilet and shower that were very clean and well-maintained.
Thanks again for this lovely stay! Hope to see you again...
