This place is what dreams are made of!! Everything here is top notch perfect!! They pick you up from the airstrip in a Jeep type car and take you up to the hotel which is set on the side of the mountains. It’s less than a 5 minute drive and is gorgeous. We were greeted by cool towels and refreshing drinks and enthusiastic staff. Our luggage was taken for us and we were assembled in the lodge for instructions. We filled out a short form. And learned about the activities, meal times etc. The staff are amazing as well. All so friendly, kind and knowledgeable. I was shown to my room and it is epic. Huge suite with included drinks of everything you could imagine. Your very own sizable swimming pool and indoor and outdoor showers. You could easily not leave your room. That being said there are tons of fun activities! The first night I went on the cave walk to the rock art. It was soooo cool! The walk is super easy and relatively flat except for the last 5 mins which is up a steep slope to the cave. I learned about the bush people and we got to see some really amazing cave art. The walk back was at sunset it was beautiful. Again they greeted us with cool towels and refreshing drinks! The next day I did the Sossusvlei trip which is a bit longer. Have a snack before you leave! It’s about a 1.5 hour drive out. You can choose to hike up big daddy sand dune. It’s a tough hike because it’s on sand so soft and steep in some parts. It took me under an hour however. The views from the top are epic. It’s also breezy up there so not as hot as you would imagine. Then is the most fun part the run down. It’s steep but the sand is so deep you can run with no fears. It was soooo much fun! The run down is on the backside and puts you in Deadvlei. It’s hot down here. The breeze is gone but the landscape is otherworldly. It’s amazing. It’s a flat walk thru the trees and slight dune hills back to the car. Then you go to a spot with beautiful views of the big mama sand dune and here you have a picnic brunch. We saw lots of wildlife on the drive back. Zebra, ostrich, oryx and springbok! I also did the quadbikes which is super fun. Very chill ride. You learn about the dunes and do some tracking. I enjoyed that experience! I also did the e-bikes. This was new for me. I loved it. It’s riding a bike with power! We did a 20k loop and it was beautiful. We saw springbok although that was it. Spent a lot of time relaxing and at the pool! All the food is amazingly delicious!! The star gazing was top notch too!! Take home message go here!! Stay forever I surely wanted to!!!

The newly renovated Sossusvlei desert Lodge is the jewel in the crown of the beautiful Namib desert. Re-opened in October 2019, the lodge boasts some of the biggest, most spacious and well appointed suites ever to be opened in this part of the world. Each guest suite has its own plunge pool, the perfect antidote to the incredible heat that is ever-present in this part of the world. The rooms are beautifully designed and decorated. All sorts of creature comforts can be found within the room. The mini bar boasts a huge variety of premium drinks, local and international. Home made ice cream can be discovered in the mini freezer. Curated coffee can be made with an in-room coffee machine. Fresh snacks daily. One never needs to leave the room. When you do venture outside of the room, another level of sophistication awaits you around every corner. The main area is as impressive as one would expect. Floor to ceiling glass doors open up to reveal the majestic landscape in front of you. Hues of pink, charcoal, grey, sand and blue are ever-changing as the sun moves accros the desert and plays with the colours you see. Enjoy your meals in the beautiful main area where the food is complementary of the surroundings and thought has gone in to every delicious dish. A gym and spa had been added to the main area and guests can make use of the gym any time of day. Bookings for spa treatments are easily made and a real treat. The addition of a family suite is a massive plus for anyone traveling with friends or family. There are so many activities that you can enjoy. Helicopter rides over this incredible landscape is a must. Quad bikes are a ton of fun and a wonderful way to discover more of the landscape. You are guided through the red clay sandy dunes by an expert guide that is quick to point out the prints in the sand left behind by snakes, golden moles and an assortment of reptiles and birds. Another activity that should not be missed is e-biking from the lodge on carved out bike trails. These bikes are battery powered and assists even the least fit to have pleasurable ride through the rocky terrain of this desert. This lodge is a must for anyone traveling to Namibia. Unrivaled luxury in the most unlikely place.

Our stay at &Beyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge was nothing short of extraordinary! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm hospitality and breathtaking views of the Namib Desert. The lodge itself is a masterpiece—seamlessly blending luxury with the natural surroundings. One of the biggest highlights of our stay was how incredibly thoughtful the staff was toward our children. They went out of their way to make the room comfortable for them and even provided cool adventure bags filled with fun activities like coloring, a magnifying glass, and a flashlight. It made our kids feel special and added an extra layer of excitement to the trip. The food was, hands down, the best we’ve ever had on a vacation. Every meal was phenomenal, but the eland was absolutely unforgettable. The culinary experience alone is worth the visit! A special thank you to KK, Maria, Sabina, Jo, Wilhelmina, Tangi, Maretha, Lebeus, and Sharine for making our stay so memorable. KK, in particular, stood out—he was extremely knowledgeable and incredibly fit. Watching him hike up Big Daddy like it was nothing was impressive! The only disappointment was that we didn’t get to experience the star-gazing session with the astronomer, which was one of the main reasons we chose this lodge. My husband is obsessed with the night sky, so missing out on that experience was unfortunate. That being said, &Beyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we can’t wait to return!

Nobody’s perfect, not even @Beyond.||Activité jour 4 : scenic flight en hélico 9-10h|Le clou du spectacle !

Andbeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge (SDL) exceeded our expectations. We knew this was a luxury lodge in the middle of the Namibian desert, but we did not expect the level of service that was given. To achieve a high standard of service in such a harsh and unforgiving environment is quite a feat, and the staff are outstanding. Our first inkling of Andbeyond's standard of care was when our travel advisor Seranne emailed us to enquire about our interests; she made our travel arrangements once we arrived in Namibia and patiently answered all our questions. Elina, our butler, discreetly anticipated our requests and made us feel at home. Our room was beautifully appointed and meticulously kept (nod to Selma and Abisai) and our laundry spotless (thanks Agnes). There was a generously stocked bar in the room with prettily crafted ice cubes and home made ice cream in the fridge. A big thank you Sabina, Esther, Shalongo, Maria, Jo and all the staff behind the scenes who made our stay so comfortable. ||We looked forward to our meals in the main lodge - kudos to Chef Chris and his team for serving consistently delicious food. There was an impressive array of alcohol sourced locally (liquors) and from South Africa (wines) which we enjoyed. The local lamb and tomahawk steak are highly recommended.||This is a place where we could relax in the stillness and austere beauty of the desert landscape. We climbed a sand dune with our cheerful and knowledgeable guide Sam, followed by a delightful picnic lunch! We also had a 45 minute helicopter ride with pilot Joe - this is highly recommended for a bird's eye view of the surreal terrain.||The activity that we enjoyed the most was the stargazing every night (8-10pm) in the Observatory, led by resident astronomer Bruce Parker. The NamibRand Nature Reserve is Africa's first Dark Sky Reserve, which means that it is one of the best places on earth to stargaze. The night sky is awesome and Bruce showed us celestial bodies that we would never have seen in our lifetime without his guidance. ||After our stay we decided to take a drive by 4x4 on gravel roads from Sossusvlei back to Windhoek across the Spreetshoogte Mountain Pass. The drive took 5-6 hours but it was well worth the effort to see the animals along the way (oryx, springbok, impala, desert squirrel, jackal, warthog, baboons) and the dramatic views from the mountain pass. Do inform the driver beforehand though because it is not open to all vehicles due to the steep gradient.||This is a stunning lodge. It took us over 30 hours to arrive but it was definitely worth the...

I recently had the pleasure of staying at And Beyond Lodge Sossusvlei, and I must say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The number of staff that came out to meet us on arrival ensured a smooth check-in process, making us feel instantly welcome.

One of the most heartwarming touches was the personalized welcoming card waiting for us in our room. The king-size bed was incredibly comfortable, and it was a delight to relax on it while watching the afternoon shadows grow longer.

The effort put into accommodating families with extra beds for kids was impressive, and we were touched by Hilma and KK's patience while playing with the kids.

The way the lodge's buildings seamlessly blend into the environment is a testament to their commitment to sustainability. The food was food, and the drinks variety was a pleasant surprise. The tea and coffee selection satisfied our cravings, and the sound of iron-rich stones clanging as we walked over them added to the unique charm of the surroundings.

The star-gazing experience guided by Bruce was quite impressive and we got to take close up pics of the moon as well as seeing the rings of Saturn through the larger of the 2 telescopes available. It was both mesmerizing and educational. The water paint and pad inspired provided in the rooms stimulated our creative sides, and we were thrilled to see oryx and springbok walking past our room to add yet another dimension to the experience.

The landscape offered a stunning contrast of colors and tones, from the red, black, and blue sky to the golden-brown grass plains.

For families, the kids' play packs, including coloring goodies, a magnifying glass, dominoes, and a water bottle, were a thoughtful touch.

What truly sets And Beyond Lodge Sossusvlei apart is their unwavering commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability. Their constant efforts to seek out ways to improve are incredible, and it's reassuring to see their dedication to preserving this beautiful region of Namibia.

One mysterious aspect that intrigued us was the "cleaning fairies." We never saw or heard them, but everything was always impeccably cared for, and every detail was seen to.

If I had to mention a minor downside, it would be the pool water being extremely cold. However, the staff assured us that they are actively working on an energy-efficient solution, which reflects their dedication to enhancing the guest experience.

Overall, our stay at And Beyond Lodge Sossusvlei was nothing short of magical, and we can't wait to return to this hidden gem in the heart of...
