If you're the kind of person who just wants to get those Instagram pictures of the Sossusvlei valley and move on then there's probably cheaper lodges closer by.
But if you're instead interested in a truly unique cosy stay in the Namib desert, in a place with absolutely stunning views, several hiking trails on the property and absolutely lovely staff, then I would definitely recommend the Namib Naukluft lodge.
The property was built 30 years ago with the help of an architect and beautifully blends into the local environment, offering spacious rooms, great views, birdwatching opportunities, wildlife within a 10 minute drive, great sunset views and many more. The rooms are all decorated with unique local art, there is a cosy bar on spot with board games and plenty of interesting books about local culture, wildlife and fauna.
During our stay we hiked on the two hills around the property to catch a great view of the surrounding landscape and enjoyed a great sunset drive.
We enjoyed our stay immensely and as promised we will be returning again in 2043 to greet our new friend...
Read moreThis lodge is near Solitaire. Do keep in mind that you are in an isolated area at this lodge and so the only real option is to eat at their evening BBQ unless you brought some food in with you. Still, the rooms are nice, clean, and reasonably appointed. The sunsets are magnificent and the property has its own water hole that attracts some critters. Staff was pleasant and the evening meal was reasonably done. I do have to say that the oryx while very flavorful, was a bit tough for me - do keep in mind that the evening meal contains some interesting items. If not arriving late to the Solitaire area, this is a good option at a fair price. The only thing I did not care for was the prepaid nature of the booking - would be nice if they would accept cancellations up until 30 days before. Not an issue for me, but do not care for the lack of...
Read moreVery nice lodge with capable and friendly staff. For me, especially Erikson stood out for his general knowledge and good conversations. WiFi worked well in our room and in the general areas (we stayed in room 2, closer to the lobby). The only drawback I can see of being closer to the lobby is that some light is visible during the night if you want to do star-gazing.|The lodge maintenance guys were very helpful in getting my tyre plugged and changed. There’s a compressor at the maintenance shop. Dinner and breakfast were good. Definitely stay here at least one night and try to make use of the pool overlooking the desert. I saw Wildebeast and Oryx from my room and a...
