12-seater plane to Ongava airstrip where there were the best toilets we have found in any airport!!!||There was confusion as we had booked Little Ongava only to find out when we arrived at the airstrip that it was closed, and we were to stay at Anderssons. Although initially disappointed, our luxury tent was excellent. It should be noted, however, that there are only fans and no air conditioning which was not an issue during our stay.||The tent was lovely and our first sight of the ‘tented large King beds’ used in all Sanctuary Retreat Lodges. Fabulous and so lovely and comfortable to stay in. Towels, bedlinen, and bathrobes were great. There was a Huge indoors shower/vanity area and another large outdoor shower. There was also a day bed inside, hanging chair and other loungers on a large deck looking out to the waterhole. “Shoutout” to all Sanctuary Retreats for their gorgeous toiletries … cruelty free … “Healthy Earth”.||We were a short walk (no. 6) from the main area, and, as the camp was fully fenced, it was not necessary to be escorted to/from our room/main area after sunset. The main area overlooked the large waterhole which provided an amazing opportunity for wildlife spotting. Next to this is the Hide, a long tunnel which takes you ‘up close and personal’ to the waterhole. Excellent spot. ||Excellent dining area, which was wonderful for the sunrise breakfasts. There was also the ‘signature Sanctuary Braai area’ with great firepit. A good sized swimming pool where it was also possible to spot wildlife passing by .. sometimes quite close.|Food (too much 😉), wine choices, etc. were all extremely good. We also enjoyed seven Safari Jeep tours with Bono during our three days and all were excellent with so much wildlife. Bono certainly kept us busy checking out rhinos, lions, elephants, giraffes, etc., etc. Oh, did we mention all the wildlife at the waterhole too!! One lovely touch is the TV in the room has a live feed of the waterhole so you can keep an eye out and rush out if necessary 😉.||Many thanks for a fabulous stay to Benedikta...
Read moreWe stayed at Andersson’s at Ongava for 2 nights and it was fantastic. We wish we would have stayed one or two nights longer. The lodge itself is beautiful, with spacious, modern rooms that fit perfectly into the natural surroundings. The wildlife sightings were incredible, thanks to our guide Stanley, who was extremely knowledgeable and made sure he pointed out not only the (big) animals, but also the small things that tend to be overlooked. We had close encounters with lions, rhinos, elephants, and giraffes, and Stanley always knew just where to take us. One morning, we woke up to lions sleeping just a few meters from our bungalow (AMAZING). Since the bungalows all have a terrace that is embedded into the bush you can get elephants (and other wildlife, such as lions) walking close by. Incredible idea and experience. The Ongava private game reserve is very vast, and we found it to be much better than the Onguma Reserve in terms of the number of animals we saw and the way that they take care of it. Andersson's also features a Research Center and a visitor center that is not to be missed!!! The lodge’s waterhole is a big highlight, especially with the underground hide. Walking through the tunnel to get close to elephants and other animals at the waterhole was one of the best parts of our stay. The staff were all wonderful, and the food was excellent. The entire experience at Andersson’s felt well-rounded with great service, amazing wildlife, and a beautiful, relaxing atmosphere. I’d definitely recommend it if you're looking for a special safari experience. We will...
