Wouldn't recommend. Creepy vibes. Didn't sleep at all.
We needed a place to stay for the night and pulled into Eldorado as it was getting dark and it was close enough to Etosha.
As you enter the property you are greeted with "No photography!" signs, fencing and guard towers, which right away suggests there is something the owners don't want the outside world to be seen. Odd, our first time seeing this in Africa.
Predators and other big animals like lions and jackals are kept on property in cages, pacing - "camps" as owners call then and can be heard at night. They claim they are doing them a favour keeping them alive as pets when they intrude on their farm, but it's clear they are nothing else but a cheap thrill roadside attraction to make money.
As we came in owners and staff were glued to their phones and seemed little interested in being welcoming (usually very telling on how things are run overall).
Campsites are pretty close to each other and feel crowded, compared to many others we stayed at. Staff traffic late at night well into the morning at 2, 3, 4 in the morning, farm worker phone conversations, car doors slamming, animal calls next to the tent, it didn't feel safe at all despite all the fencing.
Businesses like this have little place in 21st century along with travelling zoos and the circus. NamibRand and Ugab Valley Camp are much better alternatives if you are looking for camping with predatory wildlife experience in a...
Read moreWith temperatures during the day near 40 degrees C and in the 30’s at night, the owner shuts down all electricity. All cabins are between 9pm and 5:15am completely in the dark, without airco or running water. Trying to get in touch with someone at 11pm seemed impossible. Reception was closed, all doors were locked, no guard was to be found. To me, this was a huge SAFETY HAZARD. When confronting the owner in the morning regarding the electricity being shut down, I was immediately being shouted at. Not only was this man extremely aggressive and rude. I, as a 52 year old, was also called “a child that needed to grow up” and “a stupid European tourist that had no right of speaking because we didn’t know Africa”. To him, I was only out for a discount, although our accommodation was fully paid in advance. In the end he shouted that we needed to shut up and leave … . We booked this lodge for having airco and its location (this is the ONLY positive about this place), but it is OVER-PRICED. The rooms are old and extremely basic. The staff is friendly, the (white) owners are definitely not. Apparently these folks not only love to should at their staff, but also at their customers … . This was the worst experience ever. Through this review I hope to warn other...
Read moreWe had the privilege to spend a night at Eldorado lodge on 27 March 2024. We stayed in two double rooms. The lodge is situated a few minutes away from Etosha National Park and is therefore an ideal base for game drives into the park. The rooms are beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and the beds are very comfortable with excellent quality linen. The highlight of our stay was hearing the lions while we were having dinner! It made for a perfect safari atmosphere! The tasty buffet dinner had a huge variety and catered very well for everyone, vegetarian and meat lovers alike and was rounded off with South African traditional malva pudding. The buffet style breakfast was excellent too. The hosts were friendly and accommodating and made us feel right at home. They even provided us with game steak to take with us to braai on very short notice. I can really recommend Eldorado lodge to anyone needing luxury at an affordable price. A huge thank you to Hanel and team, we will definitely be back...
