We were drawn to Onguma Camp Kala from online reviews of the complete luxury experience for a special moment in our lives reflected in their incredible social media content. They certainly delivered on that - but on arrival we were thrilled to also learn about their incredible conservation efforts focused not just on habitat preservation, but also on anti-poaching efforts (ranging from sophisticated patrols, to drone monitoring, to engaging the local community in education efforts and directly employing individuals in the community). This made the experience of private game drives, soaking in our hot tub overlooking a natural watering hole, and photographing lions before bed even more enjoyable. ||||Game Drives - our guide Frans designed a custom itinerary and schedule for us every day based on our preferences, favorite animals, and energy levels. He was constantly adjusting to make sure we had the best experience. This was only possible given the opportunities presented by a private game reserve and private game drives. While it’s possible to have an amazing safari experience without everything being tailored - this is an exceptional experience for a special event or those looking for a more tailored experience. Frans himself was so so knowledgeable and friendly. We felt so cared for. ||||Food and Lodging - Think of your most luxurious experience ever and multiply that by 100. From the “breeze machine” above your bed to the fresh and delicious meals incorporating your dietary preferences, every need was not just met but anticipated. They notice if you are eating more of one thing, and make sure to have ample amounts at your next meal. They provide hot water bottles in your bed on colder winter nights so getting into bed feels like a warm hug. Each guest is assigned a “butler”, and Mona took care of us like we were family. She was attentive, kind, warm, timely to everything, and always reachable. She made sure we were able to have every experience we were looking for during our stay. ||||Extras: ||- Vegetarians: fear not! They accommodated us seemingly with ease, making a wide variety of nutritious and delicious vegetarian meals. ||- Massages/Spa: We really enjoyed the complimentary 60-minute massage and intended to return for the spa treatments, but got carried away with all the animal sightings||- Oshivelo Farms: ask them about their local employment of the community and efforts to sell produce at market rates in their...
Read moreCamp Kala is truly one of a kind safari lodge and my entire family loved it!|Lodge & Rooms: It’s super luxurious, very peaceful and has an outstanding location right in front of a very active water hole. The view of the watering hole from the rooms and the dining area was the highlight; animals came in droves throughout the day! The rooms were massive, well equipped and had all the luxurious amenities one could dream of.|Staff: this was the big big plus about Kala. From Gerhard the (very accommodating) manager to Sezare our butler to Bradley our waiter (always with engaging conversations), everyone was kind and full of smiles. Sezare made our stay so comfortable; he remembered all of our preferences, waited for us with a smile at the end of every drive and went to great lengths to ensure our comfort. We are going to miss his smile and service!|Game drives: Gordan is amazing! So patient with the kids, full of amazing facts and stories, engaging, funny, keen to show us game. We loved hanging out with Gordan on 6 game drives and he made our trip so memorable. He knows so much about the animals, the birds and his tracking skills were next level.|Food: so delicious! The lady chefs were sweet, accommodating and whipped up delicious food; even catered to our kids’ preferences. The Boma/Bush dinner was a great experience with the fire and under the night sky; the lamb stew was especially amazing!|Thank you Camp Kala Staff for making our trip so...
Read moreEverything about this lodge was perfect. The room was beautiful with everything you could imagine to make your stay private and luxurious. Our private butler, William, took care of everything for us and just amplified the luxury experience. Best WiFi speed and availability (inside room & in main areas) was best of 30 day trip. Food and beverages were creative, delicious, hot when necessary and cold when appropriate. Only complaint was lack of animals in reserve. Your stay here means you must leave the reserve (20+ min drive), cue to enter Etosha park, and then drive another 15 minutes to get to locations where most animals you came to view are located. You also have to contend with lots of self drivers and other lodge vehicles at every high profile animal sighting. Would have preferred to have stayed on the reserve but there would not have been enough opportunity to see target animals. Still would recommend a stay here if you are one this side of...
