Nice campsite, good and clean ablutions. However the service is extremely poor.
We booked and paid in full on line but when we arrived they had no record of us. I showed them our booking and payment confirmation but rather than apologising they treated us as though we had somehow done something terrible.
I was told to email the payment confirmation to them so they could check it and laughed at for booking so late (we had booked that morning).
The people checking in before us were told that all the tables in the restaurant were full but were offered a menu to look at and told that the staff would be happy to put out chairs by the watering hole to accommodate them. They were then offered a map with their campsite marked on and carefully directed where to go.before being wished an enjoyable stay.
When it came to us we were told that they were sure we would be far more comfortable cooking our own food at our campsite. When I said we had had a long day and hoped to eat with them they said they might be able to find some chairs but again told us it would be much better if we ate at our campsite.
We were then told our campsite number and the member of staff went to walk away. I asked whether we could have a map so we knew where to go as the previous people had. The member of staff looked annoyed, handed a map over and waved his hand dismissively saying our pitch was ‘over there’. He then said if we couldn’t find it we must come back as we were not allowed to drive around on our own. He then walked away.
I have no idea what crime we had committed to be treated like this, they are clearly able to be polite to guests as shown by the way they spoke to the people before us. I don’t believe we are less well presented than anyone else, nor impolite or difficult to deal with.
Be warned - you take your chances here, they either like you or they don’t!! Sadly this ruined our stay as we felt very unwelcome and as an expensive campsite (N$810 per night) we had hoped for a more...
Read moreOne of the nicest and most organized camp-sites we stayed at in our few weeks in Namibia. Very private sites nestled in the Tambotie trees and thickets - with perfectly new built shower room - separate toilet and covered camp-kitchen area all to yourself. A nice small section of grass to pitch a tent or to land the ladder of your roof-top. ||A walk up to the main facilities provides a great bar. (She's small but she's strong - We were told!) And lovely tables and chairs overlooking a nice little waterhole - which had numerous animals coming to drink and a daily rock-python trying to fool doves into landing nearby. Drinks served and meals ordered. Lovely swimming pool with loungers are all available to the limited number of camp-sites. It really is a very nicely done camp. Besides sleeping in your own tent you could have been in one of Onguma's other fancy lodges. |We took advantage of a game drive into the extensive Onguma reserve that borders on Etosha - and that was a 4 star lodge experience with comfortable open vehicles, drinks and guides. |A little bonus for bird watchers - the Tambotie Camp site has resident Black-Faced Babblers which have a rather small range in Namibia and would be worth the stop even if the campsite was not as impeccable as it is. The camp itself is cleverly fenced (allowing the main reserve animals access to the waterhole - but guests fenced in a pretty large area between all the camp-sites to stretch your legs and do some additional bird-watching in the thickets.)|The whole Onguma reserve is right outside the Numatoni Etosha gate - so for those who prefer the Private welcome and guaranteed service that this quality lodge provides (rather than the patchy attitude from services inside the National Park) it certainly is a...

I wanted to do a self-drive safari in Etosha, so I stayed here for two nights. It was the perfect base right by the gate.
I stayed at a campsite with showers and a cooking area. Everything was beautifully maintained and very clean. While I was out on safari during the day, the staff even tidied up the remains of my campfire from the night before — I was really impressed. Honestly, even in Japan it’s rare to find a campsite of such high standards.
The reception area includes a restaurant and bar, and right in front of it there is a waterhole where animals gather. One evening while I was at the bar, two elephants came to bathe. They might be regular visitors, but enjoying a beer while watching wild elephants was an unforgettable experience. The food at the restaurant was also delicious, and the service from the staff was warm and welcoming. I will definitely stay here again the next time I visit Namibia.
One important note: at night, honey badgers come to tip over the trash bins at each campsite. Make sure to lock the lids tightly! And if you don’t mind losing a little sleep, it’s worth staying up to catch a glimpse of them — seeing a honey badger is rarer than spotting lions...
