Shikamasha Etosha Game Lodge — Hotel in Oshikoto

The best part of this lodge is the staff without a doubt. From the moment we arrived to when we left they were nothing but friendly, welcoming and helpful, they are a 5 star group of employees and I think were probably the best group we encountered across Namibia. The distance to Etosha is quite long, largely due to the farm gates. Hopefully in the future the road along the side of the park can be extended to give a short cut to the gate (or even a new gate in the south east!). The food was delicious, freshly grilled meats and the staff were great at ensuring our vegetarian guest did not go hungry! We had decided to stay at the lodge for the day because we had done 2 full days around Etosha and had a long drive the next day. The electricity is off during the day but the pool was very nice and they have board games and a great pool table by the lounge. What a lovely little resort in the middle of nowehere. I chose it because of its proximity to Namutoni Gate thinking it was a short drive. Unfortunately I had to open and close many, many farm gates on the way, some of which were broken and looked like they hadn't been opened for years. I was close to turning back, thinking this couldn't possibly be the right road, when it appeared. We were the only guests, but there was a lovely bar, dinner was served under the stars next to the lovely swimming pool and a big fire was lit specially for us while the animals drinkling at the adjacent waterhole looked on. Shikamasha is a brand new resort, open since July 2018 and is situated about 85km from Etosha East. There are still some construction works going on (when we were there mid October) but the future looks great. Management has great ideas to make it more cosy! Service was good and personal, rooms were spacey and clean.
