Magical Mountain Retreat
It was hard to believe, that just within an hour’s drive from the chaos and circus of Kathmandu and Bhaktapur, we could run into such a hilltop sanctuary. Fresh air, blue skies, and spectacular views of the mountain ranges and the Terraced fields. Nature’s therapy that you cannot get enough of! And since this property is still brand new (opened in early 2023) there might be some teething issues you might encounter. But the fact that it is so new also makes it a delight as everything is so fresh and almost unused.
LOCATION: 40 minutes from Bhaktapur and 1 hour from Kathmandu. The drive here though is through bumpy mountain roads that are in desperate need of engineering.
DINE + DRINK: Uber romantic bar that is tastefully decorated with spectacular views of the mountains through floor to celebrate windows or the beautiful terrace seating! Not to be missed for sunset drinks. The restaurant menu boasts a huge range of authentic local delicacies as well as regional and international food! And the servo in both places are top notch
ROOM: We stayed in Room 201, so this review is based on that; VIEW: Spectacular views of the MOuntains and the Rice terraces; SIZE: Spacious enough for 2 adults and simple baggage; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part of putting me to sleep; BATHROOM: Stylishly designed bathroom with a fantastic Stand-in rain shower; TOILETRIES: Decent cosmetics, better to bring your own.
FACILITIES: No Gym or spa on your site. They are building a swimming pool on site, which is not usable during colder weather
SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all our needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and well taken care of. Special Shout out to to the Front office folks for a wonderful welcome experience and attending to all our requests with a smile. Big thanks to Chef Amar Maharajan and Tilak Bandari at the bar for great service!
HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free high-speed Wi-Fi that works well all over the property. Huge Plasma TV screen dishing out a mind blowing variety of channels spanning sports, news, music, movies, and entertainment in multiple languages. One of the best Satelite channel options I have seen in a hotel in...
Read moreI had gone through a couple of news articles about this resort and on their website are some impressive descriptions and details. With high expectations, my wife and I went to this place for a night’s stay. It was around 3 pm on 8th April, 2023 when we checked in. Given their high end price tag and the hype they were trying to create through social media, we were so excited. The ‘eco resort’ is described as having been built based on Newa culture and traditions. Therefore, we were expecting its standard to be akin to Hotel Dwarika’s.
When we walked through the restaurant area and took a seat outside for the welcome drinks, the first shock came with the plastic tables and chairs set out, almost as a mockery to the every concept of an ‘eco resort. Then we walked into our ‘deluxe’ room. The room was tiny! No where could we see any Newari culture or traditions. All we saw were very cheap print art above the bed and a cheap nylon rug on the floor. It was a very basic room and most disappointing.
To make matters worse, there was no greenery or fresh air to enjoy from the room. In this so-called ‘eco resort’, there was no access to fresh air in the room as the windows were permanently sealed. They even do not have balconies in any room.
To make matters worse still, their menu prices for the food and drinks were far beyond justifiable. Especially considering the poor ambience and interiors, the food and drink prices seem simply outrageous.
After spending an hour in the room, we felt suffocated as there was nowhere to walk around or enjoy. WE DECIDED TO LEAVE AS IT WAS NEITHER AN ECO RESORT NOR A NEWARI STYLE RESORT AND THE ROOM WAS RUBBISH. We came to the reception and spoke to their manager. They charged us Ten Thousand Rupees (Nrs10000) for spending an hour in the place. We paid and left the place as we figured it better to pay and leave than spend precious time at this AWFUL FAKE ECO RESORT. it was simply...
Read moreOur 2 night stay at Soaltee Westend Hotel in Nagarkot was worth every penny and effort. The hotel takes your breath away, literally. From the stunning views of Bhaktapur below, to the snow-capped Himalayas, one is left spellbound. | The beautiful and aesthetically designed hotel is a treat for the eyes. The cottages are built along the hillslope, in a European-Nepali contemporary style. Each cottage has a beautiful bedroom with a view, a bathroom with modern fittings and toiletries. The clean and fresh bedding, the furniture and drapes make it a cozy nook. The hotel has a thoughtfully designed lift to help guests go from level 0 to 1. It is a good idea to request a cottage on level 0, for those with knee problems. | Coming to the restaurant, this is where one spends the most time. The interiors will leave you awestruck. The aesthetically pleasing look combines traditional elements with the modern. The dining area is large, and comes attached with a barbecue cum lounge. The whole structure is made of glass, which makes viewing the outdoors easy. | Food is fantastic and the chefs and restaurant staff do an amazing job with personal attention and care. |The beautiful garden and landscape comes with a swimming pool and a baby pool. The pool is clean and well maintained. |Overall we had a very memorable stay and will love to recommend this hotel to anyone in need of a break from city life, or family vacation. Our favorite spot was the outdoor deck which offers the sunset view in the Hills. I guarantee you that your photography subjects will...
